Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Celebration Blast!
On May 14, 2017, National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP) Detroit Chapter, collaborated with the Detroit Institute of Arts’ (DIA) auxiliary group Friends of Asian Arts and Cultures (FAAC) to celebrate the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month by connecting our community with an afternoon of live performance, workshop and Formosa Circus Art’s (FOCA) fun! This inspiring event included the unforgettable FOCA performance and workshop at 2:30pm, and a VIP Reception at 3:30pm. The performance and workshop were open to the public, with general admission to the museum. It attracted large crowds of the community, including friends from Metro Detroit to the Rivera Court at DIA. The FOCA performance on May 14th successfully offered a specialized arts professionalism platform for both NAAAP Detroit and the DIA to connect with our community. We would like to express our deep gratitude to our distinguished corporate sponsors: General Motors, Chrysan Industries, Everprosper Health Insurance Service, and Universal Products…

Panelists and Audience Fully Engaged in Fred Korematsu and Muslim Registry Panel Discussion
On April 20, 2017, National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP) Detroit Chapter collaborated with the Arab American Civil Rights League and Oakland Community College to highlight and discuss the impact of a Muslim Registry, brought up by Carl Higbie, Chair and Spokesperson for the Great America PAC for Trump in November 2016 during the campaign. Following the video that Katy Perry produced about Trump's Muslim American Registry Plan was played, a panel discussion was held on how the Korematsu’s case and Middle Eastern American registry could impact the civil rights of American citizens. We had lively discussions with both panelists and audience fully engaged!
