Every three years, in accordance with General Convention Resolution #1982-D079, the Episcopal Church convenes an international youth event so "that the energy of the youth of the Episcopal Church can continue to be utilized in active ministry as members of the Body of Christ." 

This year, the 2017 Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) is set to welcome more than 1,300 participants, workshop leaders, speakers, and volunteers to the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma from July 10-14.  Even if you are not able to attend EYE, you can follow along via the EYE Facebook page , on  Twitter , app for Android or app for iPhone .

Besides following EYE on social media, we request that you pray for the seven youth and adults attending from our diocese. Miranda-Lynn Gartin of Faith, Cameron Park, and Michael Roche  of Grace, St. Helena, will be leading the following youth to Oklahoma: Giovanna Zampa, Kevin Briggs, Ian Curtis, Lily Torpey and Giovanni DelPiero, as well as Sofia Quinton of DioCal. Please pray for safe travels and a blessed experience.

John Karl Hirten will present a concert at Christ Church, Eureka, on Saturday July 15 at 7:30 p.m. Earlier, from 2-4 p.m. John will give a workshop on improvisation. 

 

Four years ago, the Diocese helped St. Paul's with funding for The Abraham Path Iniative. This is a program which highlighted the three great Abrahamic religions by organizing, promoting and presenting a series of programs and events to raise awareness of the three, as well as emphasize the commonality of us all.

Now,  St. Paul's, Benicia, invites you to come down for what they hope will be an interesting and enriching experience, including a wonderful Middle Eastern nosh and speakers on experiencing pilgrimage to the Holy Land, more specifically,  how it forms and broadens our experiences as Christians and members of one of great Father Abraham's religions. The event will be held on Sunday, July 16, from 2 to 5 p.m.

As of June 22, 2017,  Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop and Primate Michael B. Curry and Registrar of General Convention, the Rev. Canon Michael Barlowe, have notified the Diocese of San Joaquin that Bishop David Rice has received the required consents, from both bishops with jurisdiction and standing committees of the Episcopal Church, to become Bishop Diocesan.  Bishop Rice was elected Bishop Diocesan of San Joaquin on March 4 and will be seated as Bishop Diocesan on Nov. 16; Presiding Bishop Curry will officiate at the service.  More information and TEC's full media release is available here .

For Such a Time as This: A Call to Prayer, Fasting, and Advocacy  is the joint statement issued by Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.  Please consider joining us in prayer and fasting on the 21st (Friday, July 21, for the next date) of each month through December 2018, at which time the 115th Congress will conclude. The 21st was selected because 90% of the SNAP (food stamp) benefits across the nation are used up each month by that date.  More ways to help include writing letters and making phone calls to your representatives to request that they support funding for SNAP, Meals on Wheels and school lunch programs.
