University for Development Studies (UDS) was established in May 1992 by the Government of Ghana. The Bachelor of Science in Anesthesia is a three-year program for graduate nurses. There are approximately twenty students enrolled each year. Clinical training for the program is conducted at Tamale Teaching Hospital.

HVO volunteers will provide clinical and didactic training in nurse anesthesia to graduate nurses enrolled in the Bachelor of Science program in anesthesia at UDS. Volunteers may also participate in conducting rounds and providing clinical and didactic training to second year UDS medical students during their clinical anesthesia rotation. There may also be opportunities to provide continuing education for licensed anesthetists and collaborate on updates to the UDS curriculum.

HVO collaborates with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and the Society for Education in Anesthesia on its anesthesia projects .

ABOUT HVO
Health Volunteers Overseas is a nonprofit organization that seeks to improve global health through education of the local health workforce in resource-scarce countries. HVO volunteers build local capacity by empowering health care professionals with knowledge and skills to address the health care needs of their communities. HVO volunteers are trained health care professionals - physicians, nurses, dentists, physical therapists and others - willing to donate their time and expertise to work side-by-side with their colleagues overseas. Since 1986, HVO staff and volunteers have collaborated with a variety of health institutions to design, develop and implement each HVO project, working toward better patient care around the globe in trauma care, child and maternal health, essential surgery, cancer care, rehabilitation, and more.
