Infant Crying: A Trigger for Child Abuse
The Parent Child Center of Tulsa & Tulsa Tech
This  FREE  two hour course was developed for parents, caregivers, and professionals who care for or work with infants and young children. Participants will gain information about newborn and infant crying patterns, inconsolable crying (The Period of Purple Crying®), soothing techniques, and strategies to prevent Abusive Head Trauma and Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Challenging Injustice
and Discrimination 
Presented by  The Mental Health Association Oklahoma  and  Cox Business Center 


Together with over 800 attendees from across the country, the Symposium will explore the ways in which systemic injustice and discrimination, enforced through policy and interpersonal actions, have substantial impacts on mental health and can result in trauma, distress, and varying mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, addiction, substance abuse, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grants
Funder : Department of Agriculture

DLT grants are designed to provide access to education, training, and health care resources for rural Americans. The DLT Program is authorized by 7 U.S.C. 950aaa and provides financial assistance to encourage and improve telemedicine and distance learning services in rural areas through the use of telecommunications, computer networks, and related advanced technologies that students, teachers, medical professionals, and rural residents can use. The regulation for the DLT Program can be found at 7 CFR part 1703 (Subparts D through E). The grants, which are awarded through a competitive process, may be used to fund telecommunications-enabled information, audio and video equipment, and related advanced technologies which extend educational and medical applications into rural areas. Grants are intended to benefit end users in rural areas, who are often not in the same location as the source of the educational or health care service. Of the funds made available, $1,600,000.00 will be prioritized to provide for communication upgrades between ambulances, emergency transportation vehicles and medical facilities.

Chapman Foundation Grants for Tulsa-Area Community Projects
Funder : H.A. and Mary K. Chapman Charitable Trust; Mary K. Chapman Foundation
Deadline : Letter of Intent due by September 1, 2017 for 4th quarter consideration
 
Requests with the following attributes are favored:
  • Funding the project or program will serve a documented need and have a significant impact on the community.
  • Financial support of (i) the organization management and board of directors, (ii) individuals of the general community affected by the program or project, and (iii) other private foundations.
  • Sound financial planning for maintenance and continuation of the project or program after the initial funding is complete.
  • Potentially benefits a significant segment of people.
  • Applicant has committed volunteers and staff leadership.

U.S. Tobacco Control Policies to Reduce Health Disparities
Funder : Department of Health and Human Services

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support observational or intervention research focused on reducing health disparities in tobacco use in the United States. Specifically, this FOA is intended to stimulate scientific inquiry focused on innovative tobacco control policies. Applicants may propose projects in which the primary outcome of interest is on reducing tobacco use health disparities in vulnerable populations by utilizing tobacco prevention and control strategies. The long-term goal of this FOA is to reduce health disparities in health outcomes thereby reducing the excess disease burden of tobacco use within these groups. Applicants submitting applications related to health economics are encouraged to consult NOT-OD-16-025 to ensure that applications align with NIH mission priorities in health economics research.
