On June 1, the NFF announced the names on the 2018 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, including 75 players and six coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 98 players and 31 coaches from the divisional ranks. NFF to Announce 2017 John L. Toner Award Recipient Wednesday
On Wednesday, June 14, NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell will announce the recipient of the 2017 John L. Toner Award during the annual National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Convention in Orlando, Fla. The Toner Award is presented annually by the NFF to an athletics director who has demonstrated superior administrative abilities and shown outstanding dedication to college athletics and particularly college football. 

The recipient will be honored Dec. 5 during the 60th NFF Annual Awards Dinner at the New York Hilton Midtown alongside the other NFF major award winners, the 2017 College Football Hall of Fame Class and the 2017 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Fidelity Investments.

July 11,  SIAC Media Day: The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced that it will host its annual Football Media Day on Tuesday, July 11, at the College Football Hall of Fame.

The Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation announced a gift from the Tull Family Foundation, established by Alba and Thomas Tull, to create a commemorative statue at the Rose Bowl honoring the great Jackie Robinson, who played football at UCLA, and to assist with ongoing capital improvements at the Stadium. Thomas Tull is a member of the NFF Board of Directors while Robinson posthumously claimed the NFF Gold Medal in 1997.

The National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) announced that NFF Board Member and NACDA Executive Director  Bob Vecchione  will be inducted into the Association's Hall of Fame at the 2017 NACMA Convention June 12-15 at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Fla.

College Football Hall of Famers Johnny Bailey (Texas A&M-Kingsville), Hub Bechtol (Texas), Chris Gilbert (Texas) and Jerry Sisemore (Texas) are among the candidates on the 2018 State of Texas Sports Hall of Fame ballot. Others on the ballot include Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) head football coach Pete Fredenburg, former NFL head coach and Texas A&M quarterback Gary Kubiakformer Texas Tech athletics director Gerald Myers and former football players Robert Brazile (Jackson State), Donald Driver (Alcorn State), Andre Johnson (Miami [Fla.]), Mike Renfro (TCU), Tony Romo (Eastern Illinois) and Vince Young (Texas).

The Pat Tillman Foundation, named for the 2006 NFF Distinguished American Award recipient and College Football Hall of Fame inductee from Arizona State, announced the U.S. service members, veterans and military spouses chosen as 2017 Tillman Scholars. The newly selected class will receive more than $1.1 million in scholarships to pursue their higher education and continue their service.

College Football Hall of Famer Joe Greene (North Texas) and the Greene Family Foundation hosted Nibble and Mingle, a fundraising event benefiting the Agnes Lucille Craft Greene Scholarship fund, at the Highland Hotel in Dallas on June 9. The scholarship honors Greene's wife, Agnes, who died from breast cancer in 2015, and recipients of the scholarship are either breast cancer survivors or have a parent or guardian affected by the disease. Guests in attendance included College Football Hall of Famers Earl Campbell (Texas), Tony Dorsett (Pittsburgh), Charles Haley (James Madison) and Randy White (Maryland).

1990 Campbell Trophy winner and current Robert Morris University President Dr. Chris Howard (Air Force) and former Tennessee defensive back and current FOX Sports and NFL Network broadcaster Charles Davis are among the featured speakers at the annual NACDA Convention June 12-15 in Orlando, Fla.

1981 NFF National Scholar-Athlete and NCAA Executive Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Oliver Luck (West Virginia) and 2008 NFF John L. Toner Award recipient and Ohio State Director of Athletics Gene Smith are among those set to speak at the Learfield Minority Academy June 19-23.
Over The Middle
Dallas sports talk radio host Norm Hitzges, the NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas Chapter's 2016 Distinguished Texan, was among the honorees at the Press Club of Dallas' 2017 North Texas Legends Awards ceremony June 3.

The NFF Oklahoma Chapter will host the  33rd Annual All Sports and Scholar-Athlete Awards Luncheon June 13 at the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and Jim Thorpe Museum in Oklahoma City. 

The NFF Touchdown Club of Houston Chapter will host two upcoming luncheons featuring college head coaches. On June 21, Tulane head coach Willie Fritz will speak at the Bayou City Event Center. Then on July 24, Baylor head coach Matt Rhule will speak at the JW Marriott Houston.

The NFF Tom Lombardo/St. Louis Chapter will hold its M&M Golf Tournament July 12 at Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis, Mo.

Conference USA announced its preliminary television schedule for the 2017 season... The Big Ten Network announced its schedule for the first three weeks of the 2017 season... The Connecticut-Boston College game at Fenway Park in Boston on Nov. 18 will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network... Houston has scheduled future home-and-home series with North Texas and Washington State... San Jose State completed its 2019 non-conference schedule with the addition of Northern Colorado... The 2018 Kennesaw State-Jacksonville State football game will be played at SunTrust Park, the new home of the Atlanta Braves that opened earlier this year...
