Where we stand:

From Broward County to Tallahassee, the League has been organizing, educating and advocating for gun safety measures.

LWVBC helped plan the gun safety rally Saturday, Feb. 17, where Parkland students made the speeches that made them national heroes.

Over 4,000 participants rallied at the Federal Courthouse in Fort Lauderdale and we collected 800 signatures on petitions to ban assault weapons.

Co-President Joanne Aye and Florida League President Pamela Goodman talk with a reporter at gun rally. Media coverage of the rally helped sustain the outrage and action after the Parkland massacre.

What can you do?

1. Sign these petitions

Share them on Facebook. Encourage your friends and family to sign them.

2. Speak up at a public hearing

Come to a public hearing for the Broward Charter Review Commission and tell that group that you want them to put a measure on the November ballot to ban the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in Broward County.

The commission meets every 10 years and this is their year. It looked like they were wrapping up their work, and then the Parkland tragedy happened.

Immediately thereafter, the commission held a special meeting and discussed putting a gun-related proposition on the ballot, despite state law that pre-empts local governments from enacting gun-related laws.

Such a proposition would send a strong message that Broward County wants sensible gun laws.

Here are the first three meetings:

6:30 p.m. March 7
City of Lauderhill City Hall
5581 W. Oakland Park Blvd
Lauderhill

6:30 p.m. March 14
City of Hollywood City Hall
2600 Hollywood Boulevard
Hollywood

6:30 p.m. March 15
City of Pembroke Pines City Hall
601 City Center Way
Pembroke Pines

Your message at the hearing? Let's hear from Broward voters.  Put a measure on the November ballot to ban the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in Broward County.

3. Attend a rally

Mark your calendar: The League will participate in the March for Our Lives in Parkland on Saturday, March 24. Help us conduct voter registration at an event expected to draw thousands of participants calling for gun safety measures.
