Parents are not usually as happy about school being out for the summer as kids are. But, keeping the kids entertained with fun activities can also help parents maintain their own sanity. Below is a list of free or inexpensive activities going on locally that will help burn off some of the cooped up summer energy:

Bennett's is offering school-aged children (kindergarten - 5th grade) a free donut each time they come in and read a book at their downtown Fort Myers location.

Kids can enjoy making their own bird feeder and a personalized Frisbee. There will also be "Face Paint Fridays" going on during the weekly project time. Recommended age is 3+. Cost is $4 per child.

ReptiDay: Reptile & Exotic Animal Expo
Location: Crowne Plaza Fort Myers at Bell Tower Shops, 13051 Bell Tower Dr., Fort Myers
A one-day reptile event that will feature vendors offering reptile pets, pet supplies, feeders, cages and merchandise. There will be live animal seminars going on and multiple free raffles going on all day. An exciting, educational and fun day for everyone. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12, and any child under 5 is free.

Kids Workshop: Bug House
Location: Home Depot (at various locations)
During this hands-on workshop, kids will build their own bug house, and get the chance to get a closer look at some of the "creepy-crawly" animals they have in their own backyards. This is a free workshop that is designed for children ages 5-12. Kids will get to keep their craft project, receive a free kids Home-Depot apron, and receive a commemorative pin and certificate of achievement.
