Dear Friend,
NewBridge Services and other community mental health nonprofits across New Jersey are preparing for the fallout from the state's July 1 change to how it funds public mental health services.
For 40-plus years, community mental health
providers operated under the mantra, "No one is refused treatment because they can't afford it."
New Jersey backed the pledge by guaranteeing to cover expenses that community mental health providers couldn't recoup from clients

Having a safe, comfortable home will soon be a reality for six families struggling with mental illness, as NewBridge Services completes its Lake Avenue Apartments in Clifton by August.
The apartment building is the second phase of NewBridge's Clifton Family Housing initiative to provide homes for families in which a parent of dependent children has a mental illness. NewBridge opened the first phase, a two-family house on Emma Place, in 2007

Marie Tishy is a longtime client of NewBridge Senior Assistance for Independent Living (SAIL). We hope that by sharing her story, you can better understand how NewBridge helps bring balance to people's lives.
After losing her $2,500 hearing aid long before she'd paid it off, Marie Tishy resigned herself to a life without conversation, a world of muffled sounds. The 82-year-old's income put her just over the Medicaid limit, and she'd charged the hearing aid to a credit card. "There was no way I could afford another one, let alone two of them."

Determined to earn her New Jersey High School diploma, the younger Reyes enrolled in NewBridge Jobs Plus, an alternative education program that helped her achieve her goal in short order and encouraged her to pursue plans to become a nurse

"Race to Sustain Hope"
Gala on April 21 raised $100,000 for the
nonprofit as well as awareness about New
Jersey's imminent change in the way it
funds mental health that's expected to have
devastating repercussions unless financial safeguards are added

In July, NewBridge Services will begin running
free evidence-based Youth Mental Health First Aid training sessions for adults who regularly interact with young people
.
Thanks to a $12,000 grant from Morris County, NewBridge will provide six eight-hour sessions through the end of the year that teach family members, caregivers, educators, youth leaders and others how to help children ages 12 to 18 who have a mental illness or addiction problem, or who are in crisis
