St. Michael's Academy
:
It was a good first week back from vacation and the students returned rested and ready to work.
Our second round of parent/teacher conferences are scheduled for next Friday, March 9th. Please note that there will be no school that day and if you haven't returned your conference confirmation time, please do so as soon as possible. We ask that you arrive promptly at your designated appointment time so that the day will flow smoothly. Our third quarter progress reports went home with the students today, so please review and formulate any questions you may have for teachers.
As we continue our Lenten season, the students will have an opportunity to go to confession next week on Tuesday and Wednesday. We also invite you to join us on Fridays at 2:15 p.m. as we pray the Stations of the Cross.
And lastly, we will begin our Iowa testing on March 12th and will have some test preparation tips for you in our next newsletter.
Enjoy a great weekend.
Peace,
Ann E. Dougal
Principal

Seuss on the Loose
The Kindergarten children have been reading books by one of their favorite authors, Theodor Geisel. You may not recognize that name, but his pen name is famous in countries all over the world: Dr. Seuss!
Geisel, a Springfield native was the son of a Springfield Parks department zookeeper. He loved to go to the zoo. When he was young, he would spend many hours in Forest Park drawing the animals. As he got older, he drew whimsical animals and wrote stories about them. According to Dr. Seuss Enterprises, you can tell a Dr. Seuss drawing by looking at the characters' eyes. The pupils are always U shaped!
Dr. Seuss was a very dedicated author and illustrator. He would doodle in a notebook for eight hours every day. He would write, edit, and revise his work just like the children in Kindergarten. Dr. Seuss wrote more than forty children's books during his long career. After reading several of his books the children voted for their favorite book. The winner-
Green Eggs and Ham. Every year, Read Across America Day is celebrated on March 2nd. The birthday of Springfield's own, Dr. Seuss!!

Steppin' On Up
This past Tuesday was "Step-Up Day at St. Michael's Academy. All students received a sneak peak at what the next academic year holds for them. Some students wrote letters to incoming students, some teachers talked about activities that they will be doing and some students talked about the SchoolsNEXt competition. There was one thing that was for sure - ALL the students were excited to get a glimpse of what next year holds!

Main Lobby
|
Did You Notice?
Did you notice that the main lobby was a little bit different when you returned from vacation than before you left for vacation? That's because we have been completing some of the last pieces of the lobby renovation. So while the students were relaxing on vacation, the construction crews were hard at work installing a new office sliding window and a new desk and counter top in front of the window.
We are always looking for ways to improve our school!

Food For Thought
|
"The fast of Lent has no advantage to us unless it brings about our spiritual renewal. It is necessary while fasting to change our whole life and practice virtue. Turning away from all wickedness means keeping our tongue in check, restraining our anger, avoiding all gossip, lying and swearing. To abstain from these things- herein lies the true value of the fast."
- St. John Chrysostom
