Russell's Ritings....
A few years ago in Midland, Michigan, retired Judge Henry Hart discovered a book either he or his sister had not returned. The book was Ivanhoe. It has been checked out of the Midland Library and had never been returned. It was checked out, by the way, when the Harts were teens and was now 75 years overdue. At 5 cents a day that came to over $1400. The library reduced the charge to their maximum fee of $2.
The season of Lent is a time for self - examination. What are WE overdue in doing? Worship? Sunday School? Asking someone to forgive us? Forgiving someone else? Saying "I love you?" Saying "thank you." Inviting someone to church? Taking a bold stand? Giving up control? Visiting a friend? And we could go on and on. Let's resolve this Lent not to be tardy!
I hope to see you Sunday! The sermon is "The Power of the Cross" (I Corinthians 1: 18 - 25).
AND DON'T FORGET THE MEXICAN LUNCH THIS SUNDAY (sponsored by our Mission Team)!

Please stay after church and treat yourself to a hassle free lunch of chips, salsa, tacos, tortillas and other scrumptious Mexican dishes. Contributions received will benefit the various charities supported by our UMCE missions outreach.
We are planning 11 casseroles (including 2 that are gluten-free), pulled pork sandwiches and sopapillas. Please come and enjoy this sumptuous feast!

Safeway strongly suggests/encourages you to spend down the older tomato reloadable cards and come into the church to pick up a new more secure card from the church from Charlene Hahn, Barb Grindle or Carol Wood in the office. The new reloadable cards have higher security measures to prevent fraud. Everything is fine with the King Soopers cards.
Thank you for shopping with these cards and helping the church in this way.

Sunday, March 4 from 9:30 - 10:20 am
THE WESLEYAN QUADRILATERAL
Facilitator: Dr. Lorna Idol
Have a spiritual or theological question for which you would like to find the right answer for you based on your faith? Why not learn to use The Wesleyan Quadrilateral or Methodist Quadrilateral? Learn to use your intellect, your personal experiences with God, church dogma and the Holy Bible to find the right answer that will bring peace within. We will explore this methodology for theological reflection that is credited to John Wesley, leader of the Methodist movement in the late 18th Century. The term itself was coined by 20th Century American Methodist scholar, Albert C. Outler (1908-1989). Wesley's evangelicalism, firmly grounded in
sacramental theology, maintained that
means of grace is the manner by which God
sanctifies and transforms the believer, encouraging people to experience
Jesus Christ personally.
Sunday, March 11 from 9:30 - 10:20 am
SERIES ON THE PARABLES (NO. 1): THE GOOD SAMARITAN
(LUKE 10: 25-37)
Facilitator: The Rev. Russell Fletcher
A lawyer comes to Jesus and asks a question about eternal life. Jesus asks about Scripture, and the lawyer quotes the law. Jesus commends him, but this was too simple for the lawyer. Jesus then tells this marvelous story.
Sunday, March 18 from 9:30 - 10:20 am
SERIES ON THE PARABLES (NO. 2): THE NARROW DOOR
(LUKE 13: 22-30)
Facilitator: The Rev. Russell Fletcher
We are called to live life through a narrow door. Narrow door living calls us to be moral people in an immoral society. What does this mean, what does "holiness" mean, and what does it mean to be saved?
All are welcome!
