JUNCTION TMO
COMMUTER NEWS
June - July 2017

Highlights from Bike to Work Week
From May 13th - 21st, Junction TMO cyclists participated in the 23rd annual MassCommute Bicycle Challenge (MCBC). We had a warm, yet gorgeous week to promote and celebrate the biking commute and it was fun to welcome cyclists at the events we hosted. Bike commuters from JTMO member companies logged 300 miles during the week-long challenge. That amounts to over $34 saved in gas and it prevented 280 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the air we breathe. Congratulations, cyclists! We hope you continue to ride throughout the summer.

Parklet at 200 Ballardvale in Wilmington
On Friday, July 23rd, the Junction TMO hosted a parklet at 200 Ballardvale in Wilmington for bike commuters and those interested in and enrolled in our programs. We had a blast! Pedalin Fools Mobile Bicycle Services was there to provide tune-ups on bikes and Pipe Dream Cupcakes was handing out sweet treats to visitors. Thanks to all who joined us! If you missed us and you're interesting in trying a green commute, contact us!
Junction TMO Director selected for National Committee
The Association for Commuter Transportation is exploring the development of a certification program for transportation demand management (TDM) professionals. JTMO Executive Director Andrea Leary was selected along with 11 other professionals from around the country to serve as a subject matter expert to develop a jobs analysis survey that will gather information on the key skills and abilities of professionals within the TDM industry. The two-day intensive process was guided by Schroeder Measurement Technologies, Inc. in Clearwater, Florida. The Jobs Analysis survey will be distributed in early July to all individuals who are directly or indirectly involved in public-sector and private-sector TDM activities. The results of the survey will help determine next steps in the potential development of a certification program for TDM professionals.
Bicycle Commuter Benefit

Did you know that you can get reimbursed up to $20 per month for commuting via bicycle? Any employer, if they choose to do so, may provide a reimbursement of up to $20 per month for reasonable expenses incurred by an employee in conjunction with their commute to work by bike. The Bicycle Commuter Act provides a tax-benefited reimbursement for the expenses of bicycle commuting. The reimbursement is a fringe benefit paid pre-tax by the employer. This means the employee does not get taxed on the amount of the reimbursement.
MassDOT State Bike Plan
MassDOT is updating their statewide Bicycle Transportation Plan and they are seeking riders' help. Please complete this   brief survey  or  draw on a map  where you'd like to ride and note if there are barriers preventing you from doing so. MassDOT will also be hosting events at various locations throughout the summer to promote the Plan.  More information...
