Marquee Begins Peaches Sales

Marquee Performing Arts Center has begun taking pre-orders for renowned western slope Palisade, Colorado peaches.  "Area response was fantastic the last two years and the peaches were just flawless and delicious," said Marquee Peaches Coordinator Gary McCutcheon.  "Our grower says the peach crop looks great again, and our goal is to sell 1,000 boxes."

Peaches will again be obtained from Noland Orchards, one of Palisade's premier growers.  The peaches will be delivered in a refrigerated truck and arrive in Winfield on August 3.  Pickup will once again be at the west doors of the Winfield Community Center, Baden Square, 700 Gary St., from 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. on August 3 and from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. on August 4.  To place orders, please contact Gary McCutcheon at 620-218-6516.  Information will also be placed on the Marquee Performing Arts Center Facebook page and on the website at www.marqueepac.org .  The last day to order is July 25.

Marquee, Inc., is a 501c3 non-profit effort.  The mission is two-fold in nature:  first, to preserve and restore the former Winfield Fox Theatre building on Main Street; second, to offer a multi-purpose facility that provides entertainment, education, and cultural events for our community.  Profits from peaches sales will go towards the 2017 goal of developing a complete set of architectural drawings and construction documents for the Marquee renovation process.

Leadership Southwestern Seeking Freshman Work Day Applications

Leadership Southwestern is searching for community service projects for the 26th annual Freshman Work Day, to be held Sunday, Aug. 13.

Freshman Work Day is the final day of Southwestern orientation for the incoming freshman class.  All freshman head out into the Winfield community to work on homes and nonprofit buildings that need repair, painting, cleaning, or yardwork.  Freshman Work Day was started by the Leadership program in 1992 with the goal of establishing positive relationships between Southwestern College and the community.  Since then, all incoming freshman have spent their first day as Moundbuilders doing service for the community.

"The service work on Freshman Work Day helps new Southwestern College freshmen connect to the Winfield community as well as framing part of the school mission for students to be responsible citizens and engage in leadership through service," says Brae Wood, director of Leadership Southwestern.

To apply or to request services for someone else, call (620) 229-6367 and leave your name and phone number.  Applications can be found online at www.sckans.edu/freshmanworkday.
