Volunteers Needed!!!

Calling all CASA Volunteers! We need your help. The number of children being placed into state custody is steadily rising. That means that Anchorage GALs are dealing with extremely high case loads. They have a tremendous need for the kind of focused advocacy that YOU bring to their cases! Almost all of you are already working on at least one case at this time.

If you are are not currently assigned to a case or if you are assigned to one child or sibling group and have capacity to take on another, Sarah and I ask that you PLEASE let us know so we can look at assigning you another case.

Sarah and I continue to work on growing our program so we can increase the percentage of children served by CASA volunteers. Another way to increase the number of children we serve is to encourage those of you who can to take on a second case. We are incredibly appreciative of the work that you do. Each of you is such a valuable asset to our program and we want to make sure that we utilize you to the fullest extent possible!

Our next pre-service training will be in January and we have several information meetings scheduled for later this summer. If you know anyone who would make an excellent CASA volunteer, please let us know or have them contact us at [email protected]!

YOU DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

With Gratitude,

Becky
Got Camera Skills?

More like, can you point and shoot a camera? If you are available on Thursday, July 7th from 5:15-7:30 and can operate a very basic digital camera, we would appreciate your help! We'd like to record a training and post it online so it's available for all our volunteers to watch. The training will be on court report writing and will take place at OPA.  Let us know if you can help!

Camp Scholarships Available Through FAC

Friends of Alaska CASA (FAC) has funding available to help send children in state custody to camp! FAC has budgeted up to $250 per child, per fiscal year (summer, winter break, spring break, etc.) until funds are exhausted. Camperships can include any form of camp (sports, arts, science etc.) not related to regular daycare. It may even include individual art/music lessons or one time league memberships and related equipment/materials. If a child is in a licensed foster care placement, we ask that you first contact the child's social worker to determine if funds are available for camp.

To apply, complete the form that can be found on the FAC website:

2017 Alaska CASA Conference

2017 marks the 30th anniversary of the Alaska CASA Program!

Please join us Friday, September 29th and Saturday September 30th at the BP Energy Center for our annual conference!

We will have many fantastic workshops to choose from focusing on a broad array of critical issues, such as the opioid crisis, ICWA regulations and sexual health advocacy!

Please let us know if you plan to attend!
Court Report Workshop July 7th!

On June 8th we held a small training on disposition report writing and received very positive feedback from the participants. We are holding the workshop again on July 7th from 5:30-7:30PM at OPA. This is a required training for our newest class of volunteers. We would like to open the training up to 5 more volunteers who are interested in improving their report writing abilities. We are providing a much more detailed overview of the court report writing process than what was offered to previous classes. If you would like to attend, please let us know ASAP!

First Tuesday Training

HEADS UP!  There will not be a First Tuesday training in July!

Our next first Tuesday training will be held on  August 1st at the BP Energy Center in the ASPEN Room.  We will welcome a representative from Stone Soup Group from 12:00-1:00 pm.

We hope to see you there!

As always if you need any support from the Anchorage CASA team, please remember you can reach out to us anytime at  [email protected]

In addition to the can't-be-beat shopping bargains, there will also be refreshments.  Bring your friends!!!
Activity Passes and Gift Cards

We  have activity passes available for Shockwave Trampoline Park, H2oasis, Anchorage Zoo (these expire July 31), Anchorage Museum and Alaska Native Heritage Center. We also have some gift cards for Dairy Queen, Subway and Dino's Donuts!

If you are interested in any of the above gift cards please  contact Becky/Sarah  with your request.

May Fundraiser Update

A huge THANK YOU to those of you who attended, and helped promote the May 12th Arctic Siren Cabaret Fundraiser! The event raised $500 for Friends of Alaska CASA (FAC). FAC will be able to use these funds to continue supporting CASA Volunteers around the state!
We are immensely grateful to Peggy Monaghan and Arctic Siren Productions for selecting FAC as their May fundraiser recipient!
