An Inside Look at Exciting New Products, Market Trends & Availability
Wild Alaska Salmon On The Rise
This is an absolutely excellent time for Wild Alaska Salmon, specifically Sockeye Salmon. We just received beautiful Sockeye Salmon from the fishing vessel Towego just off of Wrangell and Prince William Sound, Alaska. The very beginning of the season's finest Columbia River Sockeyes will be shipped in this upcoming week. Coho Salmon from Alaska will also be making a first appearance, so keep your eyes peeled for this popular fish. Coho Salmon has a moderate to high concentration of fat and very rich, colorful meat - it's truly great-tasting. In the meantime, Wild Alaska Red King Salmon is being caught in the Kodiak Island area as well. Wild Ivory King Salmon are also expected when they've landed - they're often caught with Red King Salmon and sorted. This is a very rare and exciting catch.

Fish Landings
There's a great variety of wild Fish to work with leading up to the 4th of July.  As Spanish Mackerel are beginning to head up to Virginia and the Carolina's to cooler water, we're bringing in this robust flavored fish. They're being caught in traps and brought on board still alive.  We are also approaching a great time for Rhode Island Squid as catch during this part of the season increases and Squid are swimming in shore.  Other terrific options include Porgies, Monkfish, Wahoo, Skate, Fluke and Wild Alaska Halibut.

We recommend speaking with your sales rep regarding Black Sea Bass.  Rhode Island and Massachusetts seasons are both closed and Virginia has been experiencing poor weather, so Black Bass availability is decreased.  We are expecting a great week for Black Sea Bass once Rhode Island and Massachusetts open up in early July.  In fact, the quota has increased this year, which will be in our favor.  Wild Striped Bass is also limited as Rhode Island had windy weather this week and Maryland catch is off.  We expect Striper catch to pick up once Massachusetts opens up on June 26th when fishermen will be able to go out twice a week.  A heads up, Tropical Storm Cindy blew through the Gulf region this past week and kept many boats in from fishing.  Stay updated with your sales rep on availability of fish such as American and imported Red Snapper.

L obster Update
On May 31st, one of the largest Lobster areas off the Nova Scotia coast closed.  We're also approaching a time when Maine Lobsters will soon begin to shed and feed, which means they come in shore for us to catch. Until then, availability is decreased and demand has remained high.  Your sales agent will be happy to provide you Lobster options and updates on the market as it progresses.

Exotic Mushrooms
Lobster Mushrooms, the peppery flavored and bright red colored mushrooms are next up for our boutique, wild mushroom collection.  We're expecting these treats to pop up anytime soon. They'll be just in time as the Fiddlehead Fern season has closed and Morels are wrapping up as well.
