Committee Corner: The Finance Committee
 
The Finance Committee's main responsibilities are to assist the CREW committeesin paying their expenses and creating and managing budgets throughout the year. The Committee's goal is to protect CREW DC's financial position so that the chapter can offer the best experience for its members and continue to host great programs.
The Finance Committee Members are ninjas -working diligently behind-the-scenes to keep operations running smoothly, but always ready to protect their liaison Committees from the late payment or overdue contract. The committee members include:

Michelle Tierce - Sponsorship Committee Liaison
Teri Thomas - Programs Committee Liaison
 
Finance is a fantastic committee for both new and existing members to learn about the entire chapter since the committee works with all of the other CREW committees. Committee members do not need to have a finance background. Joining the committee is an excellent way to gain an understanding and experience with budgeting, basic accounting, and financial reporting.

MAKING THE MOST OF MENTORING
 
Mentorship can be one of the most influential and powerful tools for a career in any industry. Leaders in commercial real estate frequently attest to the benefits of both mentoring others and being mentored. The CREW National Capital Committee (CNCC) representing CREW DC, CREW Northern VA and CREW Suburban Maryland hosted "Making the Most of Mentoring" earlier this month where several participants from the CREW NOVA Connecting Future Leaders program spoke about their experience. Joan Fletcher, Founder and President of Winning Ways, Inc., moderated the panel which consisted of mentors CREW DC Past President Kathy Allgier, Complete Building Services; CREW NOVA Past President Tracy Allen, ECS Limited; and CREW NOVA Past President Angie O'Grady, StellaPop Consulting. Protégés consisted of Audreona Duffin, JLL; Miriam Brodie, Kimley-Horn; and Tara Fisher, Donohoe Construction Company. The panel shared some of the highlights from the program, some of the concerns they had before it started, and the valuable insights they obtained from the experience. Each expressed sincere gratitude for the relationships that they developed not only between protégé and mentor but between the group of proteges and the group of mentors. CNCC will be offering this program to all CREW DC, CREW NOVA and CREW Suburban MD members. Stay tuned for more info!
 
CONNECTING FUTURE LEADERS - A CNCC PROGRAM TO KICK OFF THIS FALL!

The Connecting Future Leaders program developed by CREW NOVA will be offered as a CNCC program this Fall. Applications will be available in July for anyone interested in participating as a mentor or protégé. As part of the program, all participants will be provided the DISC, Driving Forces assessment, and the EQi 2.0 assessment which will be discussed in depth. Participants will meet monthly for structured programming and have a one-on-one coaching session with Joan Fletcher, the program facilitator, who will help each person identify specific goals for this 9-month program. Best advice from those who have already participated: be open and honest with yourself and your partner, and be willing to work on the goals you set forth. More information on the program and how to apply will be coming out shortly.

Suited for Change is a Washington, DC-based non-profit organization that provides professional clothing and ongoing career education to low-income women who have completed job training or job readiness programs and are seeking employment. W omen's Self-Defense + Happy Hour

If you joined us for the June 9th Self-Defense class, you know how much fun we had! Led by Master Nestor Folta, owner of the Academy of World Champion Nestor Folta (AWCNF) martial arts school, this class helped empower and embolden us to be strong and ready for anything.

Please do your best to register as soon as you are able before we open it up to non-members at an increased rate. Once an event is sold out, we can place you on a waitlist but there will be no guarantee that you will be able to attend due to maximum seating restrictions.
