YPD Community Outreach & Recent Citation
Dear Members of Yale PD,

I'm always proud to update you on volunteer work our officers do in the community.  Recently, one of our officers was recognized for helping organize a Thanksgiving Turkey Drive.  Also, in late April several of our officers put together a Kids Bike Rodeo giving out free helmets.

Martin Parker Recognized by New Haven Board of Alderman

Officer Martin Parker received an official citation from the New Haven Board of Alderman for organizing the Thanksgiving Turkey drive last November.  The Turk ey drive was for the Newhallville and Dixwell Neighborhoods.

Martin rallied other YPD officers to help volunteer handing out turkeys and trimmings and delivering food directly to people's homes. He worked with local businesses to get food donated. Due to his
effo rts, over 280 families had a happy thanksgiving dinner.

YPD Officers Team up with Yale NH Hospital to put on Kid's Bike Rodeo

Several of our YPD Officers and members of Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) came  together to teach the children of Yale Graduate Housing residents about bike safety. In the courtyard of the Whitehall Apartments, YPD and YNHH volunteers passed out nearly 30 free bike helmets, safety tips, and first-aid kits so the kids could ride while being safe.
This bike safety event was held in late April. During the rodeo, the kids, who ranged in age from 3 to 10, were riding everything from scooters and tricycles to bikes without training wheels and both the kids and their parents had a great time navigating the course of traffic cones set up by the volunteers. Thanks to all the YPD officers and members of the Injury Prevention Department at YNHH for their help in organizing this fun event and to the families that attended, all of whom made the event a huge success.

That's all the news for now.  Stay safe out there.

Sincerely,
