PAWS Volunteers Are Shining Stars
A huge thank you to all of our Shining Stars.  We had a wonderful two days of celebration with you!  We missed those of you who could not attend, but appreciate all that you do to impact the lives of others.  Our volunteers are the heart of PAWS.  You bring Joy, Comfort, Compassion, Encouragement and Support to so many!  It was our honor to recognize you!

Delaware 50+ Luncheon Recognizes PAWS Members
Delware 50+ held their annual volunteer recognition event at the Executive Banquet & Conference Center in Newark on June 13, 2017. Congratulations to Marilyn Huebner (a PAWS Team with Molly Bear) for receiving the  Outstanding Senior Service Award and Lynne Robinson (PAWS Executive Director and PAWS Team with Sundance) for receiving a 35,000 Lifetime Hours Award. 


Dog Training Courses - Starting This Week
June 27, 6:30 PM  (Tuesdays, 5 week course)
NEW COURSE!

Emphasis of this course is to improve  and  build a more reliable team through mastering  attention   skills  and   focus  on the handler around distractions. We will cover a variety of exercises and games  as well as loose-lead handling skills which will provide a well rounded  and  reliable performance in all areas of your required training as a pet therapy team as well as a well mannered family pet.

June 27, 7:30 PM  (Tuesdays, 5 week course)

Want to become a PAWSome team? This class is for you! Throughout this 5-week course, handlers will have the opportunity to review and practice the basic skills necessary for their dogs to become therapy pets.

June 29, 6:30 PM  (Thursdays, 5 week course)

Is your puppy already off to a good start with its training but you are both ready for the next step? Come have fun with your pup while advancing your skills!  More emphasis will be placed on handler (owner) focus around distraction. As a team, you will be become able to to perform happily and reliably across environments.

June 29, 7:30 PM  (Thursdays, 5 week course)

Target Training allows you and your dog to focus your training on 1 or 2 specific behaviors - things you either need to work on for pet therapy visiting or behaviors you are having trouble with at home.

July 2 - 11:15 AM (one hour session)
August 6 - 11:15 AM (one hour session)

Come learn valuable "tricks" that you and your therapy companion can use while visiting! These are all simple to learn and can add variety to you own repertoire of fun behaviors that can entertain and distract. 

Team Info Session
On Tuesday, June 20 th , we held our very first Wag-n-Walk team info session.  Special thanks to fundraising chair, Keri Collins-Mooney, for putting together a great evening. 2016's top fundraisers, Marie & Christina DeVoll, shared past successes and new ideas with the group. Together committee members and participants brainstormed some fun new ways to work together to make this our best year yet. If you missed this info session, our next one will be on Wednesday, August 16th at 6:30 in the PAWS Office. Please RSVP: PAWSEvents@PAWSforPeople.org

Wag-n-Walkers
We hope that you will join us for this year's event - Saturday, October 21 st  at Delcastle Recreation Center.  There are lots of way to help make this year's Wag-n-Walk a success:
  •    Register and join us as a participant in the 5K or 1-Mile Doggie Walk:

  • Form a team and ask your friends and family to join you
  • Help us spread the word to find sponsors ad vendors for the event
  • Utilize our special Wag-n-Walk fundraising site to collect online donations to support your efforts
  • Join the planning committee and help us organize the event

Shining Stars
Jason, Jenn, Caroline, & Ginger Moon
Husband and wife, Jason and  Jenn , joined PAWS in July of 2016 with their two dogs because they believed their dogs could bring happiness to others. Caroline is a Rottweiler Mix and Ginger is a Lab/Collie Mix. The Advanced foursome started visiting at  Lima Estates  and soon became PAWS for Reading Teams, where they now also visit the  Swarthmore Public Library  and the  Media-Upper Providence Free Library . What an awesome team!

Debra Brown & Jasmine Joy
 
Debra and golden doodle, Jasmine Joy, joined PAWS in April of 2010. Debra came to pet therapy because Jasmine Joy loves people and she wanted to share her beautiful girl. This Advanced PAWS for Reading team visit with the  Bear LibraryDownie (Carrie) Elementary School, and  New Castle County Head Start, Inc. Debra also helps PAWS as a First Visit Assistant. What a great team!
