Looking Toward this Sunday June 18, 2017

Scripture: Acts 1: 1-18, 21-26
Sermon: The People's Choice: Whatever became of the disciples?

Lib McGregor Simmons will preach at 8:30 and 9:45 in Lingle Chapel and at 11 in the sanctuary.

The second sermon in the People's Choice summer worship series will address these questions posed by a DCPC member:

We never hear much about the disciples after the crucifixion.  Did they go back to their previous lives and homes?  How did they remain focused and committed?  They seemed, by and large, to meet terrible ends.  How do their stories relate to us in today's world?  What lessons are there?

To answer these questions, we will turn to the Book of Acts, the sequel to the Gospel according to Luke.  We will take a look at the biblical material, ponder some extracanonical tradition, and consider the implications of both for our own discipleship.

Colleen Bosak, soprano, will sing We Are a Garden Walled Around at the 8:30 service.
The Summer Choir will sing O That I Had a Thousand Voices  at the 11 service.

"YEAR FOUR, LET'S DO MORE"!
YEAR FOUR, LET'S DO MORE"! This project has been an overwhelming success for the past three Summers.  We are calling this Summer's project, "Year Four, Let's Do More"!  Our Congregation will be providing bags of food for 10 weeks instead of 9 for students from Blythe Elementary School.  That's 250 bags!  We will also be adding fresh, seasonal produce to each bag each week.  This need is tremendous, and the solution is simple.  Read the simple steps below to see how you can help DCPC meet this greater challenge this Summer.
Follow these simple steps:
1.  Choose one or more of the following Fridays that you can provide a bag of food: June 16, 23, 30, July 7, 14, 21, 28, August 4, 11, 18
2.  Email
Catherine Brag
g
or  Rosemary Klein  to sign up for  your specific dates.  A reminder will be sent the Monday of the week that you are providing a bag.
3.  Use the following list to fill your bag. Remember to use a brown paper bag.
Helpful tips:
·  Store brands are fine
·  ½ gallon of milk and cheese sticks will be  added before delivery
·  Small variations from this list are acceptable
·  Fresh Seasonal produce
4.  Pack all food in brown paper grocery bag
5.  Bring your full bag to the Student Center  by 9:30 A.M. on your particular Friday.
If you'd prefer for someone to shop for you, write a check to DCPC and write "Blythe Food" in the memo line.
