June 2017          Helping Neighbors in Need in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody Since 1987.
Donations Needed for School Supply Program

Please help CAC provide 900 children with backpacks and school supplies for the start of the upcoming school year.  Donate to the Tools for School campaign and just $35 provides a child with a new backpack and school supplies, a $50 retail cost! CAC makes your dollars go further by buying supplies in bulk.  Or donate large, heavy duty back packs to CAC.  You can ensure that local children of families in need go to school with the tools they need to learn! Backpacks with supplies will be distributed at the end of July.

Groups Pack Summer Lunches

Volunteer groups from Cisco and the National Charity League Dunwoody Chapter recently came to CAC and packed 500 Summer Lunch Bags.  Each bag contains 5 easy-to-prepare lunches for children of local families seeking food assistance. Many of these children receive free or reduced-priced meals at school and their families struggle to provide enough food during the summer break. CAC distributes the lunch bags to families with children daily. Also thanks to  Chic-fil-A, CIT, Knights of Columbus/St. Jude's men's club for recent service in the food pantry.
A Mother Seeking Help

Every day CAC volunteers provide compassionate assistance to neighbors coming to us in times of crisis, seeking help to keep their homes and feed their families. This mother recently contacted CAC with a plea for help:

"I'm a mother of 3 and we live in an apartment. I lost my job last month and I depleted my funds after paying June's rent and other bills. I have applied for Tanf and I'm awaiting an appointment. I'm seeking assistance with July's rent and utilities. I am actively looking for employment and I'm interviewing. I just haven't landed anything yet. If you could help or give information on additional resources that would be greatly appreciated.  I'd also like information on job placement assistance. Thank you so very much and I hope to hear from you soon. I know my situation is temporary; I just need help for the next couple months."

Your donation of any amount makes a difference in the lives of families in our community.
Cultivating the Next Generation of Philanthropists

CAC appreciates every donation made, but it's especially heartwarming when coming from children.  Kaden, a third grader at The Atlanta Speech School, held a used sports equipment drive at his school so that kids who didn't have equipment had an opportunity to play sports. His project came about after his class studied famous individuals and created projects based on how that person inspired them. Kaden studied Jackie Robinson who broke the color barrier in baseball and helped people play sports no matter what. In two weeks Kaden collected 46 items and donated them to CAC for local children in need.

Lyla, a Peachtree Middle School student, created "Helping Handstands" for her bat mitzvah charity project. The handstand contest took place at the Marcus Jewish Community Center where Lyla is enrolled in gymnastics.  Several stores donated toys as prizes. Contestants were asked to small donations to enter. Sixty children ages 7- 15 participated. The longest held handstand was 2 minutes and the contest raised $560!  "I decided to donate it to CAC because I thought it would help more people going to a local charity," said Lyla whose family is a member of Temple Sinai.  She donated the proceeds to CAC's Tools for School which will provide 16 children with new backpacks and school supplies this summer!
