First Annual State YES! Award Goes To.....

The First Annual State Competition Award Ceremony was held at Target Field on May 21st, 2017 where the winners were announced on field. This year, Glencoe-Silver Lake was awarded the 2017 State YES! Award for their dedication to their project, their outstanding teamwork, and their work on a real world problem.
This event was attended by over 100 YES! students, coaches, staff, and supporters from the four YES! teams that won the All-Star Award in their region. Teams represented the following communities: Glencoe-Silver Lake, Wrenshall, Westbrook-Walnut Grove, and St. Cloud.

New Role for a Familiar Face

YES! is pleased to announce that Cheryl Glaeser, a member of the original founding team and a long-time advocate of the YES! program, joins us to implement our fund development plan and facilitate strategic results for our future. Cheryl will work with YES! on a contract basis through her new venture, Achieve TFC. We are excited to put Cheryl's historical knowledge of the program and her connections across the state and nation to work as we envision a bold, more sustainable future for YES! Cheryl recently shared, "after spending the last year working all across the nation, I am even more convinced YES! is a unique program for youth and their communities. We are empowering students to solve environmental challenges while engaging communities and building the innovative skills needed for our future workforce. I am excited to be back on the team and enthusiastic about the possibilities for the future of YES!" Save the Date for the 2017 YES! Fall Summit!

Get excited for Wednesday, October 11th, when we will host the 11th annual YES! Fall Summit at Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center. The day will center around the theme "Say YES! to Living Green" and will include interactive sessions on green careers, energy conservation and efficiency, climate change, project planning, and an opportunity for students to complete challenge courses such as the flying squirrel.

Did You Know...

The Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City (ACGC) YES! team received an award for their tree trench project. The Middle Fork Crow River Watershed District Board of Managers wanted to "recognize individuals and groups who have improved or protected local water resources" and awarded the ACGC YES! team the Project of the Year for complexity of problem address, degree of landowner-agency cooperation, impact on water quality, outreach possibilities, aesthetics, and cost per pound of phosphorus removed/prevented. Congratulations to the ACGC YES! team for their amazing work and hard-earned recognition!
