On July 4, 1776 the United States declared its independence, and this July 3 you can celebrate it with family and friends at Columbus'
Red, White and Boom.
Every year, over 400,000 people will gather in downtown Columbus to view the parade, eat local foods, listen to performers on stage and watch the fireworks.

Apply to Become an Orientation Leader with OIA

The Office of International Affairs is now accepting applications for Orientation Leaders to help welcome new incoming international students for autumn semester 2017.
Orientation Leaders
are a diverse group of students who welcome new international students to Ohio State and the city of Columbus and lead orientation.

Global Engagement Film Series
|
The Office of International Affairs collaborates with the Gateway Film Center to host a monthly international film series. Students will have the chance to view films from around the world for free!
The next film is "Last Men in Aleppo" and will be shown on Wednesday, June 28 at 7 p.m. at the Gateway Film Center.
The film follows the efforts of the internationally recognized White Helmets, an organization comprised of ordinary citizens who are the first to rush towards military strikes and attacks in the hope of saving lives.
The first 30 students will receive free popcorn and soda! Admission is FREE for students with a BuckID.

Apply for the 2017-2018 Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship

 Students can now apply to the
Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship! The fellowship is named in honor of Frederick Douglass, the African-American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer and international statesman, by the CIEE: Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) and the Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions (CMSI), who have partnered in an effort to increase the opportunities for the most financially challenged students from the nation's nearly 600 Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs)
Applications are now open for the 2017-2018 cohort, who will travel to Cape Town, South Africa in summer 2018 for a credit-earning study abroad program on Intercultural Communication and Leadership. Scholarship funds will cover 100 percent of program fees and travel costs for a cohort of 10 students from MSIs.
Selected Frederick Douglass Global Fellows will be meritorious individuals who demonstrate high academic achievement, possess exemplary communication skills, display the hallmarks of self-determination, exhibit characteristics of bold leadership, and have a history of service to others. In the spirit of one of America's most powerful intellectuals, communicators, and scholars, Frederick Douglass Global Fellows will commit to sharing their experiences and intercultural growth with peers and classmates before, during, and after the fellowship.

President's Prize Application Now Open
|
As graduating seniors this spring, Margaret Griffin of Cincinnati and KayMesha Knox, a Columbus native, learned they were the first-ever President's Prize recipients.
Each received a living stipend, startup funding and access to faculty mentors and other accomplished experts.
Applications are being accepted through Friday, July, 14 to be considered for President's Prize recognition, which is bestowed on exceptional students who are committed to social change.
