Sermon: The People's Choice: Enough is Enough

A question came from one DCPC member about a theme that was recently discussed in a Sunday school class related to the "Theology of Enough." What does it mean for us to trust that God has given us enough and what does it look like for us to be content with what we have? The promise of American life is "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Often times that pursuit includes an insatiable thirst for more stuff...stuff we don't need. And often our thirst for more leaves us burdened and enslaved to money and possessions - unable to freely give of ourselves and unwilling to share with the most vulnerable of society.
Some have argued that God has given us plenty for all to live comfortably and that the reason for poverty is distribution rather than scarcity. What does it mean to live the abundant life that Jesus promises while at the same time ensuring that everyone can participate in it? In other words, if I have all the resources, how can you enjoy God's abundance? Or to ask the question another way, "How can we make sure that everyone has enough?"

with Helen Goldsby a concert in the DCPC sanctuary on July 16 at 3:00 p.m. featuring music by French composers Gabriel Faure, Francis Poulenc, Austrian composer Wolfgang Mozart and more. Ms. Goldsby will be accompanied by long-time collaborator pianist David Gilliland. The concert is a benefit for the S.S.A.N.G. foundation and tickets are available at Etix.com.

Support the Salvation Army's Center for Hope

you can support the Salvation Army's Center for Hope.
The Salvation Army women's shelter is overcrowded. Churches have been asked to offer support between June and November by hosting women in their communities for one or more weeks. We are currently planning to host 8 women as our guests the weeks of July 24

. We will need people to help with this by providing meals, helping with transportation, helping with laundry, and staying overnight. Simply

Adult Faith Formation
SUMMER ABC, ANOTHER BIBLE CLASS
will be taught by John Ryan and Mary Margaret Porter June 11-July 16 at 9:45 a.m. in room 201.
To prepare for this week's class, please read Exodus 1-10. Additionally, the author of the course, Adam Hamilton has a companion book titled Moses: in the footsteps of the reluctant prophet. It's available from Amazon in hardback and in a Kindle version. The book is not necessary, but is very interesting!
