With Dedication, Anything is Possible in IISE Membership

Meet Kim Needy, Former IISE President, Dean of the University of Arkansas Graduate School and International Education.

Kim Needy joined IISE as a student member in 1981. Over the years, she volunteered for leadership stints at university and professional chapters, along with regional posts and involvement with the Council of Industrial Engineering Academic Department Heads. Needy's immersion within IISE membership helped her build her network and develop leadership skills that propelled her to IISE's presidency in 2013.

Her IISE connections still help to this day, even after transitioning into the academic arena. She often gets questioned about whether she likes her job now that she's not doing industrial engineering.

"I tell them, 'Are you kidding me? I'm doing industrial engineering every day,'" Needy said. "It's just I'm applying those skills to an academic process in the grad school and international education. I'm dealing with processes all day long."
