"Now You Know"
Notes from the Historic Heritage Commission
Fr. Jenkins admires the bells during last summer's restoration of the bell tower.

1924 Church Bells
  • Saint Paul's Church plans would never be complete until it obtained a chime of bells.  In 1924, such chimes were purchased, consisting of 11 bells, weighing 12,187 pounds.
  •
  • It is noted after the fire, what remained of the old bell of 1820 was dug up from the ground under the tower and put in the castings of the new bells.
  •
  • In January 1924 these bells were dedicated with a solemn service, and from that time to present have been rung daily.
  •
  • The first time these bells were used at service was on the first Sunday in June 1924. The bells sent out a clear note of the Doxology to the tune of "Old Hundredth."
