Hulsey wins Place 4 runoff election
|
|
The winner of the runoff election for Place 4 on the Burleson City Council is Todd Hulsey. Hulsey earned 54.37 percent of the votes. Pam Grant Tatum brought in 45.63 percent.

- Todd Hulsey: 336 total votes
A special meeting to canvas the election and swear in Place 4 Todd Hulsey will be held at 9 a.m., June 26 in the council chambers at City Hall, 141 W. Renfro Street.

Hidden Creek Golf Course Pro advances to 99th PGA Championship
|
|
Greg Gregory, assistant golf professional at Hidden Creek Golf Course, is headed to compete in the 99th PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, August 10-13. A top 20 finish at the 50th PGA Professional Championship, yesterday, set Gregory up for his first-ever opportunity to compete for the
Wanamaker Trophy. Previous winners of the PGA Championship include Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jack Nicklaus and Ben Hogan just to name a few.
Gregory was part of a field of 312 players from across the U.S. that competed at the 50th PGA Professional Championship in Sunriver, Oregon. Gregory ended the tournament tied for 9th place.

Hot Sounds of Summer concert tonight; street closures
|
|
Another installment of the Hot Sounds of Summer concert series will take place tonight. The free
90-minute concert in Old Town starts at 7:30 p.m. with Graceland Ninjaz. The band plays a variety of hits with a lot of Elvis mixed in.
Street closures in Old Town Burleson (124 W. Ellison St.) will start at 4 p.m. today and every Friday through June 30, come down early and eat at one of the more than half a dozen restaurants, then set up your lawn chairs and blankets in the street. Food and drink are allowed at the concerts, but patrons are strongly discouraged from bringing glass bottles, due to safety reasons.

City's 4th of July Celebration
|
|
Trio Grande, a ZZ Top cover band, is the headliner for the City's free Independence Day concert and fireworks show on Tuesday, July 4. The celebration takes place at Chisenhall Fields Sports Complex, 500 W. Hidden Creek Pkwy. The gates will open at 5 p.m., with the concert starting at 7:30 p.m. and the fireworks at approximately 9:20 p.m.
The day's celebration starts at 9 a.m. on July 4 with the Burleson Lions Club's 13th annual Independence Day Parade. The parade route starts at Kerr Middle School and winds from Irene Street to Gregory Street, Johnson Avenue, Ellison Street, Wilson Street, Bufford Street, Warren Street, Gregory, and back to Irene. The parade will pass in front of Burleson City Hall.

World's Largest Swim Lesson
|
|
Burleson Fire Department and the Burleson Recreation Center were happy to partner with North Texas Jellystone for The World's Largest Swimming Lesson™ (WLSL), Thursday, June 22. The nation's top water safety and training organizations joined forces to present the event, to build awareness about the vital importance of teaching children to swim and to help prevent drowning.
Firefighters were on-hand at the event and demonstrated CPR to the participants. Most drownings that occur are 100% preventable and the Burleson Fire Department continues its commitment to bring awareness of this issue to our community.

Meet Allegra, a three-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier. Allegra is a sweet girl who showed up at the shelter with really bad allergies, hence the name Allegra. Shelter staff got her allergies under control, and now she is ready to find her new home with someone to give her lots of cuddles and grain-free treats. She would do best in a home as the only pet that way she doesn't have to share any of the attention.
**The Burleson Animal Shelter is currently at capacity, so Allegra and all of her friends are $85 or less.** Come meet her today.

As a reminder:
The storage, use, possession or sale of fireworks is prohibited inside the city. The exception to the rule is the City's Fourth of July fireworks show, which is free to the public.
The Burleson Fire Marshal's Office and/or the Burleson Police Department can write the tickets. Violations of the fire code are subject to a fine of up to $2,000. Each day that a violation is permitted to exist is a separate offense.
