City of South Fulton Explores Offering Sanitation Services in the Future

The City of South Fulton City Council is exploring the provision of sanitation services to residents as one of the city's base services. Our goal is to keep the prices in line with what most residents currently pay for private trash collection, and enhanced services would include a curbside recycling component.

There should NOT be concern that our sanitation costs will escalate to what our neighboring jurisdiction charges for sanitation pickup, because we will NOT be hiring staff and purchasing dump trucks to haul your trash. We will either contract with a single or multiple private vendors depending on the competitiveness of the Request for Proposal (RFP) respondents.

It is anticipated that this RFP will be issued in late August. There will be a series of town hall meetings for residents to ask questions and provide feedback before any final decisions are made, stay tuned.

City of South Fulton Establishes Boards
and Commissions w ith Appointments to Follow
The City of South Fulton has begun the process to establish a number of boards and commissions to include the Planning Commission, Code Enforcement Board and Zoning Appeals Board. Each of the three boards will be comprised of eight members, representing an appointment from each City Council member.  All board and commission appointees must reside in the city and be approved by a majority vote of the City Council. The appointee cannot hold another city office or receive city-compensation during their term.

The appointee cannot serve more than three terms, either consecutive or non-consecutive. The term is concurrent with the City Council (or Mayor) member who makes the nomination. Any member who fails to attend three consecutive meetings or fails to attend 75% or more of the meetings within a calendar year will be removed.

Appointees must possess strong decision-making skills and be willing to gain knowledge of City policies and to weigh the professional input given in staff reports, environmental impact reports, and consultant reports. The Zoning Appeals board in particular will issue the equivalent of legal decisions, and persons with a legal or compliance background are preferred. If you are interested in serving, please forward your resume to Catherine.Rowell@cityofsouthfultonga.gov by July 12, 2017 and identify the board you have interest in serving.

  • decide on applications by landowners to permit buildings or land uses which vary from the zoning regulations

All appointees are required to complete at least two hours of training.
