Long Beach Named one of the Top 10 Most Walkable Cities in the Nation

Long Beach managed to squeeze into Walk Score's recent list of Most Walkable Cities in the Nation with a score of 70. According to Walk Score's website "Long Beach combines world class urban amenities with small town charm and a laid back lifestyle." Long Beach's spot in the Top 10 also makes them the most walkable city in Southern California. With Summer in full swing get out and walk around Uptown! There's a lot to see and experience!

Long Beach and Urban Agriculture
The City of Long Beach has approved a program that is dedicated to creating urban farms, community gardens, and educational green spaces by way of their own Urban Agriculture Incentive Zone (UAIZ) Programs. This is beneficial to Uptown residents because it provides more opportunities for individuals in the area to create farming spaces. More farming spaces leads to more Uptown residents having access to healthy food and a healthier lifestyle.
NLB Victory Garden
The NLB Victory Garden is a new community garden located at 6509 Gundry Ave. Long Beach, CA 90805. They have local Master Gardeners from 9am-10am every Saturday morning talking about sustainability as well as how to plant and grow fruits and veggies.

🚨 Safety Alert 🚨
Long Beach public health officials recently announced that mosquitoes capable of carrying the Zika virus have been found in North Long Beach. The mosquitoes that carry this virus are small, have black and white colorings and are regarded as more aggressive than other mosquitoes due to the fact that they tend to bite during the daylight hours. The Long Beach Health Department will be at the next PopUp Town Social informing residents about Zika in North Long Beach.

Zika symptoms include fever, muscle aches, joint pains, and reddening of the eyes and rashes, according to Long Beach health officials. For more information about Zika and Long Beach visit the Long Beach Health and Human Services Department website below.
