July in Truro ...
July is a month when the sun remains near its highest transit in the sky. The longest day was June 20th and the days are now very slowly shortening, our surrounding waters continue to soak up the solar energy, bringing us our warmest month of the year.
The warming trend continues with temperatures up 6 degrees from June. According to past records, we expect an average temperature of 70°F, with average lows of 62°F and highs of 79°F. We traditionally get a total of only 1.8 inches of rain (about 1/3 drier than June).
Below are some of the activities and events happening about town this month.

The Highland House Museum and the Truro Meeting House offer speakers, music, and other activities, as well. Many businesses are accessible to all, including Captain's Choice Restaurant, Cape Tip Seafood Market, Savory and Sweet Escapes, the Box Lunch, Chequessett Chocolate, Jams, and Salty Market. Twine Field off Pond Road in North Truro
The 10-acre Twine Field off Pond Road in North Truro, an upland meadow - the rarest habitat on the Cape - is in danger of being developed. The Truro Conservation Trust, with the help of neighbors and friends, is working hard to raise money to save the Twine Field. No other upland meadow of this size exists in Truro, nor in Wellfleet nor in Provincetown. Our meadow is an ecosystem of unusually hardy, long-seasoned, deep-rooted plants and fortunate animals. More than a hundred species of amphibians, reptiles, mammals, insects, and butterflies as well as 94 species of birds receive both food and shelter there. The six-foot deep roots of these plants and of the woods behind the meadow provide a natural filtering system that keeps dangerous pollutants from seeping into Pilgrim Pond and our groundwater. The Twine Field is also an historical treasure where, for decades, Truro's fishermen mended their nets as they built our town. More...
Friends of the Meeting House - Big Thank You!
The Meeting House and its treasured Revere Foundry bell will be preserved for the future thanks to the Town of Truro and many generous donors. The Friends of the Truro Meeting House marked the successful completion of its five-year preservation project with a Townwide Celebration on July 3.
Begun in 2012 and completed this year, the project received major funding provided by the Town of Truro through its Community Preservation Act Program along with support from the Friends. The July 3 event was our Big Thank You that  included greetings from Senator Julian Cyr, Representative Sarah Peake, and Paul Wisotzky, Chair of the Truro Board of Selectmen. There was ringing of the bell, rousing music, and special awards followed by refreshments donated by Truro restaurants.
Truro Beaches Thank You!
Heartfelt thanks to all of the volunteers who participated in our bayside beach clean-up on Saturday, June 3. Volunteers are what make the clean-up work! We can't do it without you. Due to your efforts, we were able to pick up trash on half of our beaches in about two hours!
The beach clean-up is a collaboration between Truro residents, Truro's Beach, DPW, and Conservation departments, Truro Rescue, CERT, Wellfleet Audubon, and AmeriCorps. Thanks, too, to Dunkin Donuts of Wellfleet for providing coffee and donuts.
The next clean-up is being planned for September for the ocean beaches. We hope to see you then!
Truro Central School
Truro Central School students and staff are on summer vacation !!   See you in September.
