Gundalow Piscataqua is coming to Dover
Friday, June 23, 2017
The Gundalow Company operates their gundalow PISCATAQUA throughout the Piscataqua Region and takes over 8,000 students and member of the public out on the water every year. For 250 years, gundalows were the work-horses of the region. These flat-bottomed sailing barges hauled brick, wood, hay and other cargo up and down the rivers. This year Dover is celebrating the installation of the gundalow the CAPTAIN EDWARD ADAMS at Henry Law Park and the Gundalow Company invites you to celebrate by joining them on the water for a sail. Dover Adventure Playground Opening

The Dover Adventure Playground, located in Lower Henry Law Park adjacent to the Children's Museum of New Hampshire, is opening this summer and all are welcome! The playground will feature a life-size flat-bottomed gundalow boat, a net climber, swings and slides, a 3-story Garrison tower, a climbable fish sculpture and musical instruments! SNHUG's Second Annual "SNHUGFEST" will take place once again at the beautiful Rotary Arts Pavilion in downtown Dover. This is so much fun!  This is a free, family oriented event.  Local performers and even a group from Nashville will participate and spend the weekend.  We will once again attempt to break the unofficial NH strumming record so everyone, bring your ukes or just come for a picnic and enjoy the show!  
Rochester Independent Film Festival

The Rochester Public Library and the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts are coming together to host the first ever Rochester Independent Film Festival at the Rochester Opera House on the weekend of June 24 & 25.  The weekend long festival will feature award-winning independent films from around the globe.  Featured films include: In the Heat of the Night, Raid on Rainbow Lounge, The Third Man, The Messenger, Gold, Broke, Sea Monsters, Road North, and T-Rex.  There will also be a surprise midnight screening of a classic horror film on Saturday.  The film will not be revealed to audiences until the midnight screening.
Each attendee will be given a pass with voting instructions.  A full schedule of events can be found on the museum's website.  There is no formal admission fee although there is a suggested donation of $10 to help offset event costs.  Visit  www.rochestermfa.org/film for more information.

Creative Writing Classes & Tutoring

This workshop is designed for those who would like more concentrated feedback on their work in order to bring it to the next level. Emphasis will be placed on close, active reading of one another's work, and we students will study what it means to read like writers. This class is open to writers of both fiction or nonfiction, and is an excellent option for those who have already taken Where Fire Meets Form or Memoir Writing in the past. Writers of all levels and backgrounds are welcome. *This course will be limited to 6 participants.
Summer Reading Program~Build a Better World
June 21st-August 2nd
Kids:  Kids in preschool through grade 6 will track their reading and listening time over the summer. For every hour that you read or listen, you will get a Lego piece to add to our growing structure. If your Lego has a dot on it, you can choose a prize! Enjoy lots of amazing stories and make our Lego building expand!
Teens: T eens earn raffle tickets for reading, the more you read the better chance you have of winning a prize.  Choose where to deposit your raffle tickets from among 10 special prize packs on display. 
Adults: A ges 18 and over, can register online through the library's website, library.dover.nh.gov, or in person at the Library's Circulation Desk. Write a "mini-review" for each book you read or listen to. Each counts as an entry toward a weekly prize drawing. You may choose which weekly prize you would most would like to win.

July 24-28: For grades 1-3, a writing program that will help children improve reading, writing, math, vocabulary, collaborative learning and creativity skills. Children's Author and Publisher Layne Case, owner of AMITY Publications, will guide AITs through the steps needed to become a published author.

The Museum of Art's annual Summer Art Camp classes include drawing, painting, ceramics, digital photography, and mixed media. Art camp is offered as a DAY camp for students grades 2-12. Class offerings are from  9am-noon  and  1pm-4pm . Tuition and fees vary depending on the grade level and art media. Classes offered to students, grades 2-8, are designed to teach fundamental skills and encourage exploration of creativity.
