News Bites
  • Labor force participation (number of people working or looking for work) is trending up.  Good news is labor participation rate lines between African-Americans and whites are at crossroads -- near identical. This has not happened since 1972 when black labor force participation rate was slightly higher.
  • College foreign-student visas drop 40% below 2015 peak. Drop due to increased competition from colleges in other countries, and recent tougher U.S. policies for visas.  Most decline is college students from India with 28% decline.  School year 2017 F-1 student visas count: 68% Asian (China 112,817; India 44,741); 15% Europe; 7% South America; 5% Africa; 4% North America; 1% Oceania.

Habits for Success - Attitude

Who are the most successful workers on a job?  These are workers who  always get promotions, raises, and special opportunities at work.  What do these workers know and do that creates on-the-job success over and over again?

Successful workers may come from families that taught them success habits since  childhood, or successful workers may have the natural ability to learn success habits on their own.

The good news is:  a ) Success habits are not a secret.  b) Every person who wants to learn success habits can learn.  Here are tips to help you learn habits for success:

CONTROL YOUR ATTITUDE
  • Keep Mentally & Physically Together. Practice being both physically and mentally at work at work when at work; and being both physically and mentally at home when at home.
  • Pratice End-of-Work Reflection Ritual. Before leaving work, take time to think of three things that went well at work or for which you are grateful about work.
  • Do Not Dwell. Do not think of a bad event over and over again.  Allow yourself ten minutes to replay the bad event in your brain; think of what you can learn from the event; then close the flashback movie in your brain and move on to positive, peaceful thoughts.
  • Pay It Forward. Do at least one good deed each work shift.
  • Give Your Full Attention. Listening to others is one of the most important things you can do to increase your influence and likability at work.
