Alamo Colleges District Summer Momentum Program Successful
The Alamo Colleges District's Summer Momentum Program saved students $3.2 million in tuition for classes this summer.

This summer, 7,344 Alamo Colleges District students took advantage of the district's newly implemented Summer Momentum Program to enroll in three to six credit hours at no cost, saving them a substantial $3.2 million in tuition and moving them closer to completing their degree or certificate more quickly! This is the first summer term in which students have been eligible for the Summer Momentum Program, which was approved by the Board of Trustees in October 2016. 

Under the program, students who earned a combined total of 24 or more credit hours in the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters receive up to six free credit hours in summer 2017. Students who earned a combined total of 18 to 23  credit hours receive up to three credit hours. The 7,344 students represent 51.71 percent of the 14,201 students who were eligible for the program. Summer 2017 enrollment increased by nearly 700 students as a result of the program. 

Alamo Colleges District - San Antonio College Launches Saturday Associate Degree Program
In Fall 2017, San Antonio College will offer three associate degree programs featuring Saturday-only classes.


Starting in Fall 2017, students at Alamo Colleges District - San Antonio College (SAC) will be able to earn an associate degree entirely on Saturdays in only two years.   

Currently, the Saturday @ SAC program offers three associate degrees: Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice, Associate of Arts in Business Administration, and Associate of Applied Science in Computer Programming.

Saturday @ SAC utilizes a hybrid model to deliver the content for each of the degrees, with a guarantee that SAC will provide the courses needed to complete the necessary coursework in exactly two years.

Cohorts will take four courses a semester utilizing the Flex I and Flex II 8-week sessions and Summer. All classes will meet face-to-face on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Throughout the week, assignments will also be completed via the online classroom CANVAS.

Eight Northeast Lakeview College students are participating
in grant funded research projects this summer at NLC and UTSA.

Alamo Colleges District - Northeast Lakeview College Students Launch Research Projects

Eight students from Alamo Colleges District - Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) are participating in a Summer Science Research Program. The students will do their research at UTSA and NLC as a part of the CIMA (Ciencia, Ingeniería, y Matemáticas Aliados) LS-AMP (Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation) grant. 

Half of the students are conducting research in civil engineering, biophysics, chemistry and physics for 10 weeks in partnership with UTSA and will receive a $3,000 stipend at the completion of the project. The other half of the students are conducting research at NLC in conjunction with a researcher at Kansas State University. Their projects will run for five weeks, and these students will receive a stipend of $1,500. All of the summer research students will present their findings at a symposium on August 3 at Alamo Colleges District - St. Philip's College.  

NLC faculty members Marsha Adrian, assistant professor of chemistry, and Dr. Erica Cain, assistant professor of biology, are coordinating the summer research programs.
