Pentecost 3
Trinity Tidbits-Week of Pentecost 3

TOTH logo
For several years, the month of June has been recognized as PRIDE Month, a month-long celebration of the LGBTQ community and its positive impacts on our collective society.  It's also an opportunity to reflect on the experiences of a historically marginalized and mistreated community.  One of the questions of our Baptismal Covenant asks, "Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being?"   As a pastor, I've heard enough stories about the painful process of coming out that I know we still have much work to do as a culture and a Church to be able to answer 'Yes' to that question with integrity. As I think about these things, a thought occurred to me: Don't let the sun go down before I've affirmed the God-given dignity and beauty of even just one person. I put that same challenge to you.
     Peace,
     Chris

Elders' Coffee for June
The TOTH elders group will meet on Monday, June 26, at 10 a.m. (note new time) at 999 Central Avenue. This is the building that also houses Radio Shack and Don Taylor's Photography and is across Central Ave. from the east end of the County Building.  Refreshments will be available at 10 a.m. in the parking lot. We will then go to the third floor conference room in the administrative offices of the Los Alamos Fire Department and hear a talk on fire safety in the home, the "fire" part of "Remembering When, a fire and fall prevention program for older adults."  All are invited.

DIOCESE OF THE RIO GRANDE

K eep, O Lord, your household the Church in your steadfast faith and love, that through your grace we may proclaim your truth with boldness, and minister your justice with compassion; for the sake of our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
 Amen.

THE BISHOP SEARCH
Did you know?
A bishop's power in the Episcopal Church
The Episcopal Church, our branch of the Anglican Communion, retains the threefold ministry of bishops, priests, and deacons, but, from its inception, the role of bishops in the Episcopal Church has differed from the role that they had in the Church of England. In particular, legislative authority in the Episcopal Church as to doctrine, discipline, and worship resides in the General Convention, which in turn is composed of two houses, the House of Deputies (laity, priests, and deacons) and the House of bishops. Both houses must approve any legislative action of the convention, thus the power of the bishops is significantly less in the Episcopal Church than in the Church of England. The bishops, as a group, can take no action without approval of the House of Deputies except to the extent that the General Convention has previously delegated authority and responsibility to the bishops. Those delegations of authority and responsibility are found in the Book of Common Prayer, the Constitution, and the Canons.
+ + +
At the June 9 meeting, the Profile Subcommittee reported that it had received 227 electronic and five paper responses to the Bishop Search Survey on Survey Monkey. Of those 232 responses, 83 percent were from the laity, 65 percent were from the two northern deaneries, 65 percent were from urban areas, and 65 percent of the respondents were women. The subcommittee reported that it was substantially ahead of schedule in its tasks. Besides hearing other subcommittee reports, the Committee also discussed the best way to do first long-distance interviews with bishop nominees and the importance of both anonymity and confidentiality. The Committee adjusted its calendar and added a meeting to be held the morning of Oct. 19, the first day of the diocesan convention.
