New to Convention! LCUL Hosting Rock Star Round-table Discussions
LCUL knows the value in networking with your peers, particularly in a round-table setting with topics to discuss. As a new feature to convention, LCUL is excited to host an opportunity for attendees to get even more out of their convention experience. As attendees rotate tables, they are given three cards to write their ideas. Ideas are shared and will be condensed to a document that will be distributed to attendees. Check out some of the topics:

Our volunteers ROCK because...
  • What makes your CU's volunteers rock stars? (examples of outstanding performance in the role of "lead singers")
  • Top forty performances (Decision making that impacts our members in positive ways)
  • The show tanked because: (What were the no shows that we wish we never tried)
Small credit union harmonies...
  • Back stage pass to greatness (Who out there can or did mentor you?)
  • The Voice for our success is: (Performance by a shameless promoter and what they said)
  • Our roadies (people and ideas that keep us going toward growth)
Financial statement scores...
  • Music and lyrics (Key ratios that you depend on to sing your song)
  • Heavy metal (Where are you burning up the show?)
  • Going acoustic (Our mellow basic performance benchmarks)
Marketing mosh pit...
  • The RAVE  (can't miss marketing ideas)
  • Mix tape (The best of marketing, or the breakup songs)
  • Can you dance to it?  (Marketing ideas that can be duplicated in other shops)
Round-table discussions are scheduled for Thursday, July 27 at 8:00 a.m. prior to opening ceremonies. There is no additional cost to attend.

1st Quarter 2017 LA Credit Union Profiles & Milestones Report Available on LCUL Website*

Keeping Members Virtually Safe: Should Credit Unions Issue Virtual Cards?

CSCU's Lou Grilli's thoughts on virtual cards (also known as "burner cards", that is credit/debit cards with no plastic version).

It's fairly well known that as chip cards and chip card readers are putting a big dent in fraud conducted at the point-of-sale (counterfeit fraud), the bad guys are shifting their efforts to committing fraud online. E-commerce fraud (52%) clearly outweighs swiped fraud (28%) on credit cards, with debit card fraud still experiencing swiped fraud, since not as many debit cards have been reissued with chips - that will change by the end of this year. Meanwhile, ecommerce breaches are popping up in the news with increasing frequency.

Pelican State CU Member Grabs Over $700 In Groceries During Shopping Spree
Long-time Pelican State CU member Lauren Edwards anxiously grabbed the handle of her grocery cart as the 10-second countdown started over the intercom at Carter's Supermarket in Walker, Louisiana.

Lauren was chosen as the grand prize winner of a two-minute, all-you-can-grab shopping spree at Carter's Supermarket on 29760 Walker South Road during the Grand Re-Opening of the credit union's Denham Springs branch at 145 Rushing Road.

As soon as the countdown finished, Lauren raced through the store as Pelican team members and her family cheered her on. Her mind was set on a very generous idea-grabbing everything she needed for a community cookout with her neighbors. She also snagged some of her kids' favorite foods.

"I cannot thank you enough," Lauren told the team. The total at the end of Lauren's foot-long receipt was $775.96.

The credit union is actively involved with its Denham Springs community and regularly gives back to its members through community events like the Denham Springs Spring and Fall Festivals and Grocery Store Giveaway. Pelican also hosts an annual FREE Kids Bike Race before school starts. The event is open to the public and is a completely free event that includes face painting, games and refreshments.
