Our Annual Green Building Tour will feature Spire's new office space at 700 Market. The repurposed Postmodern building is on the National Register of Historic Places and received LEED Gold certification in summer 2016.
Green design and construction features at Spire include: use of materials with low-volatile organic compounds and recycled building materials, energy-saving LED lighting throughout the building, an automated window shade system that adjusts based on light, season and room usage, water conservation efforts such as water bottle filling stations and water efficient faucets, water purification system, lighting that maximizes daylight and adjusts based on room usage, diversion of more than half of the construction waste from landfills, and strong internal recycling protocols.

In this two hour interactive course, we'll explore why traditional lighting control strategies are underutilized today and how technology and lighting codes are reversing this trend. We'll also explore how control technologies have advanced to deliver a better user and economic experience today. Additionally, presenters will discuss how IoT (Internet of Things) and PoE (Power over Ethernet) are impacting this space and how the luminaire is evolving from a product that produces functional light to a truly intelligent device.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter is accepting proposals for educational programs to be offered in 2018.
USGBC-MGC strives to offer a diverse selection of educational programs to educate our members and community on current green building principles and practices and to expand the opportunities for LEED Professionals to gain continuing education hours.
We are particularly seeking in-depth workshops - extended consideration of topics to build upon green building professionals' existing knowledge.

Join the Green Schools Movement!

The USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter is looking for individuals to mentor with the Green Schools Quest! The mentor registration deadline is August 15, 2017.
Since the Green Schools Quest launched four years ago, over 100 schools have participated - many for multiple years. Student-driven projects at these schools have impacted nearly 100,000 students, teachers, and community members.
Participating schools and mentors can't say enough about the positive impact this program is having in advancing their schools' sustainability initiatives.
As we gear up for the 2017-18 school year, we are seeking Green Mentors to work with local schools.
Mentors should be willing and able to provide sustainability expertise and guidance to their students, and should commit to a minimum of 4-6 hours per month of personal time mentoring within assigned school beginning October 2017 and concluding mid-March 2018.
Other mentor responsibilities include:
- Meet with the school Green Team at least twice per month.
- Help students and their team Sponsor (a minimum of one faculty/staff/parent per team will assist as team Sponsor) green their schools for little or no cost.
- Provide guidance on project selection, execution, establishment of metrics and recording impact.
- Assist with documentation and preparation of final submission (such as video or PowerPoint).
- Help assigned school compete for special recognition in the Green Schools Quest.
- Attend one Green Mentor training prior to visiting your assigned school.

USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter Leadership met recently with the staff of Senators Claire McCaskill and Roy Blunt to emphasize the importance of the energy efficiency programs threatened by the proposed federal budget.
ENERGY STAR is the most widely recognized symbol for energy efficiency, with a brand awareness of about 90%. In 2015 alone, American consumers and businesses saved over $34 billion with the help of ENERGY STAR, and since 1992, ENERGY STAR has assisted companies and consumers save $430 billion on utility bills.

USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter Recognized by Construction Specification Institute
|
|
 USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter is the recipient of the
Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) North Central Region Cooperation Award.
This award recognizes USGBC-MGC and CSI-Greater St. Louis' ongoing partnership to provide an annual joint program exploring sustainability in the construction process.
Education Committee Co-Chair Abigail Adams accepted the award at a CSI St. Louis Chapter Awards Dinner in June. Many thanks to CSI St. Louis Chapter for this honor!

U.S. Department of Education Assistant Secretary of Management Holly Ham, Acting Chief of Staff of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration George Kelly, Director of the Campaign for Environmental Literacy James L. Elder, Jr., and Director of the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council Anisa Heming will honor the 2017 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools (ED-GRS), District Sustainability Awardees, and Postsecondary Sustainability Awardees in a private ceremony at 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday, July 19, in Washington, D.C.
Forty-five schools, nine districts, and nine colleges and universities will be recognized for their commitment to reducing environmental impact and utility costs, promoting better health, and providing environmental education. The festivities will also recognize a state official for advancing sustainable schools in Georgia.
Three Missouri Schools were selected by the Department of Education as 2017 Green Ribbon Schools and will be honored at this ceremony.

The Ameren Missouri BizSavers® Program will be hosting a lunch and learn to educate eligible participants about the new
Energy Management System Pilot Program.
Energy Management Systems monitor, control and optimize the performance of equipment and resources in a facility, reducing energy while providing real-time monitoring of energy consumption for the entire building or on specific equipment.
Eligible public and private schools, as well as tax-exempt organizations can receive incentives for 50% of the total EMS project costs and can receive up to $35,000 per building.
Representatives from K-12 schools, non-profits and other tax-exempt organizations are encouraged to attend this meeting to learn how they can receive cash incentives from Ameren Missouri and lower their energy costs by installing or improving their building's energy management systems. Missouri Energy Loan Program
FY2018 Applications due July 31 |

The Missouri Department of Economic Development is
now accepting applications for low-interest energy improvement loans
to public schools, public/private colleges and universities, local governments, local government/public owned airport facilities (municipal, county, regional, and international), public water and wastewater treatment facilities, and public/private not-for-profit hospitals. In total, the Department is making $5 million available for these entities to complete energy-efficiency and renewable energy projects throughout the State of Missouri.
The department's Division of Energy is accepting loan applications from May 1, 2017 through July 31, 2017 for loans between $10,000 and $1 million. Loan applications will be evaluated on a competitive basis. If money remains after applications have been reviewed and prioritized, consideration will be given to loans in excess of $1 million.
