The Potomac Playmakers Announce the Second Annual One-Act Plays By Maryland Playwrights!
In keeping with the Playmakers' mission of expanding theatre into the community, The Potomac Playmakers are committed to presenting original works by Maryland playwrights. The shows are as follows:
- Phineas, by Jacon Waeyaert, starring Gregory Freeman, Jr., Mandy McClanathan, Barry Harbaugh, and Caitlin McPherson - an original light drama, in which a writer attempts to overcome a creative block. In the process, he explores his life story and how it has contributed to his current block. The story details the struggle of artists, and the inner conflict that can arise in attempting to attain one's goals.
- Absolution, by Gerard Marconi, starring Nic Randolph Sigman and Jacob Waeyaert - an original drama in which two men examine their life choices, finding conflict between spirituality and materialism.
- Two Grunts For Yes, by Jessica McHugh, starring Barbara McCormick, Tod Williams, Laurna Grubb, and Adam Martens - an original comedy, in which an older couple wrestle with the idea of their daughter falling in love with a man of a racial minority.
All three one-act plays are directed by Chas Rittenhouse and Co-Directed by Laurna Grubb.
The Second Annual One-Act Plays By Maryland Playwrights will run on July 14 & 15, 2017 at The Women's Club, located at 31 S. Potomac Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740. Showtime for both nights is 8:00 p.m. Advance tickets are available for purchase online at www.potomacplaymakers.org, while $13 general admission tickets are available at the door.

"The Lay Of The Land"
An Exhibition of Paintings, Prints, & Turned Wood
By Susan Carney, Mark Muse and Neil Super
The Shepherdstown Community Club (War Memorial Building), 102 E. German St., Shepherdstown, WV, hosts a four day exhibition of new works by artists Susan Carney, Mark Muse and Neil Super. The exhibit runs Thursday, July 6th through Sunday, July 9th. Exhibit hours are 10am-8pm Thursday and Friday, 9am-9pm Saturday, and 9am-5pm Sunday.
There will be an ARTISTS' RECEPTION on Saturday, July 8th, from 5pm-9pm with live music and refreshments

Plein Air Painting with Philip Lindsey
Washington County Museum of Fine Arts
Saturday, July 8, 2017 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Rain Date: Saturday, August 12, 2017
Explore technique, process, and theory of open air (plein air) painting in a relaxed atmosphere at beautiful City Park Lake. Participants will be led through a step-by-step process of painting on location from direct observation. All stages of the painting process will be addressed, from start to finish. Workshop attendees will have the option of completing one or two paintings during the workshop.
Supply List: 2 canvases/supports, basic set of oil or acrylic paints (studio size tubes), basic set of brushes, a flat palette, palette knife, easel, small containers of mineral spirits if working in oil, or small containers of water if working in acrylic, rags/paper towels.
Optional Supplies: chair/stool, sunscreen, hat, bug repellent.
Register by July 1, 2017! Cost: $45.00 non-museum members/$41.50 museum members.

Bridge of Life presents a Free Movie Night with "Beauty and the Beast."

Belle (Emma Watson), a bright, beautiful and independent young woman, is taken prisoner by a beast (Dan Stevens) in its castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the beast's hideous exterior, allowing her to recognize the kind heart and soul of the true prince that hides on the inside.

Mason-Dixon Barbershop Chorus
at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts

Barbershop Harmony is a unique art form, with its roots from back during the turn of the century America. The barbershop style of harmony uses close 4 - part acapella referring to no musical accompaniment. Old songs with smooth melodies and natural harmony were written in the heyday of Tin Pan Alley from 1890 to 1920 which were best suited for the barbershop harmony style.
These songs were about the simple pleasures and emotions of life that an average singer could easily sing. Beginning in the small town barbershops, local country stores and churches throughout America, it was not long before the male quartet became a standard act in Vaudeville shows and other musical entertainments. Recordings of popular quartets in the early decades of the 20th century formed the heart of barbershop music as we know it today, a style that still delights the performer as well as the listener.
The Mason Dixon Barbershop Chorus is one of over 800 chapters comprised of over 35,000 singers worldwide. Living in communities in the surrounding areas such Hagerstown and even some from over the Mason-Dixon Line in Pennsylvania (hence the name), our chorus members come from many different occupations. Some members might be new, while others having been a part of the tradition of singing barbershop for over 60 years or more. Throughout the year the chorus performs at a variety of venues such as nursing homes, hospitals, civic events including the singing "The National Anthem" at the Hagerstown Suns game as well as for private audiences. Some of the songs we sing are familiar classics like "My Wild Irish Rose", "Chattanooga Choo Choo" and "Shenandoah".

The Potomac Playmakers Announce Auditions for the first show of the 2017-2018,
Dan Goggin's classic musical, Nunsense!
Produced under special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc., Nunsense will be directed by Tod Williams, with musical direction by Ruth Stenger Japzon. The cast calls for five females, ranging in age from 20-60+. Auditions for Nunsense will be held on July 17 & 18, 2017 at The Women's Club, located at 31 S. Prospect Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740. Start time for auditions will be 7:00 pm on both nights.
Applicants must prepare a minimum of 16 bars of music, preferably a Broadway song. There will be cold readings from the script, and a dance portion of the audition. Comfortable clothing is encouraged. Show dates for Nunsense will be September 22-24, 2017, with possible additional performances TBA.
