SPECIAL EDITION HIGHLIGHTING
First, we hope everyone had an enjoyable 4th of July. This edition of the NAMI-NYS E-News highlights the participation of NAMI-NYS at last week's NAMI National Convention. You will also see how many of the issues discussed at the convention will also be featured at the 2017 NAMI-NYS Education Conference
, taking place November 10-12th at the Desmond Hotel.
We also want to provide a quick
ADVOCACY UPDATE: Last week, Governor Cuomo signed the Kenda's Law extender bill. Thank you to all of you who contributed to the advocacy effort which will ensure that those with the most serious forms of mental illness have access to services to provide housing and support to keep them out of hospitals and jails.
As always, we want to know about the work you are doing. Please email
Matthew@NAMINYS.org with details and pictures about your work. This way we can feature it in the E-News and print Newsletter. Showcasing your work will allow others to learn from you, and that's the best way we can grow together as an organization.

We will also be announcing a research update presentation at the conference by a leading NIMH researcher in the coming weeks.

NAMI-NYS Thanks Sita Diehl and Wishes Her the Best
On Her Retirement
NAMI-NYS wishes to extend our gratitude to NAMI's longtime
Director, Policy & State Outreach
Advocacy & Public Policy Sita Diehl, who will be retiring at the end of July. Many of you will remember Sita's presentation from our 2011 Advocacy Day. Sita has been a constant source of information and support and we are all better advocates because of her dedication. We wish all the best and look forward to working with Hannah Wesolowski who will be assuming that role in NAMI's advocacy team.
