you told us and we listened

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your feedback regarding the Ontario East Municipal Conference (OEMC). We appreciate and value all the comments we received.

We took all feedback into consideration when planning the sessions for this year's conference.

We understand and took seriously the comments regarding the location of the conference. We conducted an extensive research into the possibility of moving the conference to an alternate location in Eastern Ontario. After a thorough investigation, we concluded that there is no other facility in Ontario East's membership area that would be able to accommodate the size and scope of the OEMC.

Consequently, we met with the management at the Ambassador Hotel and Conference Centre and expressed your concerns regarding the facilities, staffing levels, and the quantity and quality of the catering at the venue. We have been assured that there will be significant improvements at this year's conference. We will continue to follow up with the hotel to ensure our expectations are met or exceeded.

In our ongoing efforts to keep things "fresh", we are delighted to advise you that we have something new and exciting planned for this year's "closing session". Please see below under the OEMC Highlight for details.

Sincerely,

Bonnie O'Neill and Lucy Medeiros

Kingston Penitentiary Excursion
Friday, September 15th
10:00am -12:30pm

Tours through Kingston Penitentiary offer a rare and unique opportunity to go behind the walls of Canada's oldest and most notorious maximum security prison. Closed in 2013, the guided tours provide an up close look at KP as an amazing historical building and a national historic site, which predates Canadian confederation.
Along the tour route you will see the muster area (visitation and correspondence area), north gate, G-Range (cell range) programs wing, main cell dome, segregation/dissociation wing, shop dome, metal shop and recreational yard. The Regional Treatment Centre's Gymnasium includes a mural dedicated to the inmates and staff of Kingston Penitentiary that is truly a feast for the eyes.

Big Rideau Lake Boat Rentals

Portland - Heather and Rob Heins love being on the water so they have made it their business to get you out cruising the Rideau Canal Waterway. The couple started Big Rideau Lake Boat Rentals 21 years ago. "My family built the very first sailing ships ever built in Canada, with the first one named the Miramichi, so being on the water is in my blood," says Heather.

Located on the Rideau Canal system, the company has six spacious houseboats, ranging from 32 to 42 feet in length, and three 22-foot pontoon boats. Boats are fully equipped with GPS tablets with the Navionics app as well as paper maps to negotiate the lakes and lock stations. The goal is to offer all the amenities for a carefree and enjoyable time on the water.
