A TIMELINE FOR ASSESSING YOUR COMPANY'S BENEFITS
As time passes and your company's needs change, it's important to understand the process for assessing and/or updating your benefit offerings.

3-6+ months prior to open enrollment:
  • Decide on the benefits to be offered. Gather information on possible carriers and the value their products would bring to your company. Fill out any forms that need to be completed by the carriers, once selected.
  • Communicate with carriers to discuss enrollment planning to ensure selection and materials are appropriate for your employees.
6-8 weeks prior to open enrollment:
  • Begin sharing benefits information with employees.
During open enrollment:
  • Use your carrier account contacts to keep items on track throughout the open enrollment process.
  • Remind employees of enrollment closing deadlines.
After open enrollment:
  • Make sure all employees have responded to open enrollment, whether accepting or declining coverage. Follow up and provide carriers with any information or issues that need to be addressed.
  • Ensure service visits are scheduled with your carrier account contacts in order to continue the conversation of the benefits and service provided.
  • Gather feedback from employees that can assist in future open enrollment periods.

  LIFESMILE WELLNESS MATERIAL
Did you know that Delta Dental's LifeSmile program is a nationally used wellness communications program? We want all of our members to know how much their oral health affects their overall health, and this wellness program helps us accomplish this through a series of flyers, rack cards, posters, emails, and direct mail pieces. These pieces can be used by you on your wellness sites, emailed to employees, or printed out and posted in break rooms. The program is intended to help educate members about the importance of their oral health, how it relates to their overall health, and how they can best use their dental benefits to take care of it.

Feel free to download the accompanying pieces to use. We also have them available in Spanish.

Below is just a small sample of the materials available. We will soon be adding a new page to our
Oral Health & Wellness site to include the full spectrum of LifeSmile materials.

#TeethMatter: Raising the Volume on Oral Health
Did you know that a dentist or dental hygienist can spot early signs of 120 diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and several forms of cancer? Or that 90 percent of systemic diseases have symptoms in and around the mouth?

At Delta Dental of Colorado, we are working with partners across the state to better inform businesses, health professionals, and the public about how closely connected oral health is to overall health. By taking care of your oral health, you can help prevent or better manage many serious chronic health conditions. And you can increase your chances of living a long, healthy, and productive life.

Oral health isn't just a personal concern. The societal cost of poor oral health is staggering. At Children's Hospital Colorado, four of nine surgical rooms are devoted to dental procedures. An average of 10 dental operations are performed there each day - more than 3,500 in a year - that are almost entirely preventable with better oral health habits. Nationally, the number of hospital emergency room visits related to oral health more than doubled since 2000, costing the health care system $1.6 billion each year.

Through our oral health communications campaign, #TeethMatter, we hope to encourage Coloradans to make regular visits to their dental provider and to raise awareness and understanding of the importance of oral health to us as individuals and as a society. Our coalition includes dentists, family physicians, the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine, health foundations, business groups, and many more. Encourage your employees to learn about the importance of oral health and overall health   and to get the most out of their dental benefits by using them.
