Creating a Future for Yolanda's Family
Yolanda and her sons were hit with financial troubles and found themselves without stable housing. After a few months of staying with friends and coworkers, her oldest son began missing school as he tried to deal with the stress and anxiety from not having a permanent home.

A school counselor connected Yolanda with supportive services and MCCH helped her find a home for her family through our permanent supportive housing program. You can hear Yolanda and her son José share their powerful journey by watching the video above

Each year, our generous community helps us host a Back to School Fair for nearly 300 children served by MCCH who are no longer homeless, thanks to our permanent housing programs.

The 2017 Back to School Fair will be held in on Tuesday, August 29th at Faith United Methodist Church, located at 6810 Montrose Road, Rockville, MD 20852.

This exciting event offers several opportunities to get involved. We need donations of school supplies, party supplies and gift cards. We also need volunteers before the event to sort and organize school supplies, as well as volunteers during the event  to set up, run games and activities, distribute backpacks, serve food, and clean up.

We’ve been thinking quite a bit about panhandling in recent days, following the tragic death of a local man who was struck and killed by a car while panhandling in Germantown.  His death led many people in our community to question – what is the right thing to do when you see someone on the side of the road or sidewalk, holding up a sign and asking for help?

If you choose to respond to a panhandler, we encourage you to give them information through our Resource Card.  Download our Resource Card from our website or email volunteer@mcch.net and request to receive these cards via regular mail.

This terrible accident isn't the first, but let's try to make it the last. Together we can move forward and work to provide solutions for the most vulnerable in our community.

MCCH clients celebrated the start of summer with a family picnic! More than 50 children and adults from our permanent supportive housing programs  spent a sunny afternoon enjoying a barbecue lunch, fun outdoor games for all ages, and exciting raffle prizes. Many thanks to our volunteers from Aronson LLC for making the day truly special for our clients!

Our dedicated volunteer Keri Henderson organized the Oh Baby! Donation Drive and donated 60 baby baskets full of diapers, clothes and other baby necessities! These baskets will go straight to our clients, helping them through not only their transition into permanent housing, but also their transition into parenthood.

Thanks to our friends at  Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church for donating 25 cleaning supply kits to our clients!  All of these supplies were purchased by the church and then assembled by their young members. These kits will help our clients as they transition into permanent homes.

Thank you for your commitment to ensuring that all Montgomery County residents have a safe, stable and affordable place to call home!

Sincerely,
