It's that time again in the great state of Oklahoma, Independence Day! After you spend some time with the family having a barbecue, don't forget to attend the 4th of July events going on around the state! Nominations For Mayor Of The Year, Innovations And Don Rider Awards Deadline July 14th!
Nominations are now being accepted for the MCO Mayor of the Year awards, the Innovations award, and the Don Rider award. Please submit your entries by Friday, July 14, 2017. The awards will be presented at the OML annual conference being held in Tulsa, September 12-14.

Special End of Fiscal Year Duties - Public Notice
The end of the fiscal year, June 30, brings with it special legal requirements and concerns for municipalities as they close out one fiscal year and enter another. The Constitutional Debt Limitation, which limits how and when a city or town can spend money, takes center stage. Please note, a few municipalities have changed their fiscal year from July 1 to either a calendar year or some other beginning date. Therefore, they will have to substitute the date ending their fiscal year for the June 30 date . Read Article
Mayors Council Of Oklahoma Summer Conference July 20th - 22nd in Idabel
The President of the Mayors Council of Oklahoma (MCO) and Mayor of Guymon, Kim Peterson, would like to invite his fellow mayors to the  Mayors' Summer Conference in Idabel July 20 - 22, 2017. He says "It is a one of a kind opportunity to network with fellow mayors from around the State who not only understand the issues you face but are also there to share their experiences and assist with possible solutions."

Idabel Mayor Tina Foshee-Thomas has made tremendous plans for those in attendance.  For more details on the exciting events happening at the conference, check out the agenda or visit the MCO website for details and registration.

2018 Legislative Requests: Deadline August 4th
The 2017 Legislative Session is over and it is time to start the process of planning for the 2018 legislative session. OML values the perspective of all members on legislative concerns and we encourage city officials to participate in the process so we will be prepared to present a united legislative effort. Please complete the Legislative Request Form by August 4th. The OML Legislative Committee will be voting on the issues on Wednesday, August 9th at 9:00 a.m. at OML. If you submit an issue, we would love to have you attend the meeting on the 9th to present it to the committee.
Porter Peach Festival July 13-15th

For the last 50 years Porter, Oklahoma has hosted a peach festival. At this festival you will find car shows, free peaches and ice cream, and even a 5K run! Rush Springs Watermelon Festival August 10th-12th

Every year on the second Saturday in August, Rush Springs hosts a watermelon festival celebrating the local crop of watermelons. Since 1948, The Rush Springs Watermelon Festival has been a tradition, bringing in over 20,000 visitors every year. Watermelon-themed activities are planned as family fun entertainment.  Head to South Oklahoma town Rush Springs to enjoy some refreshing watermelon! This year, the festival will be held on August 10-12th. Check their Facebook page for details.

OML Board Districts 2 And 11 Call For Nominations: Deadline July 21st
The Board seats representing Districts 2 and 11 on the Oklahoma Municipal League Board of Directors is up for election this year and will be voted on at the 2017 OML annual business meeting held during the OML annual conference in Tulsa, Thursday morning September 14, 2017.  The District 2 representative, Honorable Jason Nichols, Mayor for the City of Tahlequah, and the District 11 representative, the Honorable Richard Chapman, Vice-Mayor of the Town of Gage have both expressed a desire to continue serving their districts if reappointed.
