Which Brands?
Signia TeleCare
Signia (formerly Siemens) was the first manufacturer to release this technology. Their "myHearing" App can be used by anyone to provide feedback to their audiologist but only Signia brand hearing aids can be adjusted by the audiologist remotely.

Resound Smart 3D
Resound is the latest manufacturer to release a Tele-Audiology app. It works with their new Linx 3D hearing aids which allow remote adjustments and communication with their audiologist via the app.

Tele-Health is a buzz word these days. It allows health care professionals to provide care for their patients without having to be in the same location together. Hearing aids have recently been introduced to this category of health care. I guess we could call it Tele- Audiology.

Benefits of Tele-Audiology
For the Patient:
Find it difficult to get to the clinic for an adjustment or to ask some questions? Adjustments can be made by the audiologist remotely with the use of an app on your mobile device. This feature is great for people who travel, those who have busy schedules and for people who have mobility issues. You can also send a short message from your mobile device to get answers to your questions within 48 business hours.
For the Audiologist:
We can get feedback from our patients while they are in a situation where they are having difficulty hearing. It is not always easy to remember examples and details during follow-up appointments which are usually two weeks apart. Patients can rate their hearing aids in real time and this information is sent to their audiologist who can address these concerns at their next appointment or maybe even send the changes to the hearing aids remotely via the app on the patient's mobile device! Research has shown that patients are more successful with their hearing aids when they receive this extra care during the first few weeks of obtaining the devices.
Hearing Homework
Learning to hear well again takes time and patience. There are some exercises we can give people to do at home during the first few weeks after obtaining their hearing aids. The results of these short listening exercises get sent to the audiologist for review. Hearing aid sound adjustments or other recommendations might be made based on this information.
Whether you're a snowbird who would like hearing care from afar or the child of a parent who has mobility issues, teleAudiology is definitely a nice option to consider. At Highland Hearing Clinic, we embrace any technology which might be beneficial to our patients. We are excited about this new technology and look forward to trying it with our patients in the coming months. The future is here!

Happy hearing,
