2016 LSF-RBC Our Canada Project Award Winners

The LSF-RBC Our Canada Project Award is given annually to the top 3 projects posted on www.OurCanadaProject.ca to recognize outstanding student leadership and contributions to Canada's sustainable future.

Out of 160 projects posted this year, 3 projects stood out:

1st place, $3,000: E.L. Crossley Secondary School in Fonthill, ON for VegFest 2016

2nd place, $2,000: David Livingstone Elementary School in Vancouver, BC for Canada's North - A Balancing Act

3rd place, $1,000: Ecole McTavish in Fort McMurray, AB for Solar Greenhouse

Thank you to RBC for their generous support of Our Canada Project and for making these awards possible, and congratulations to the students - you are inspiring changemakers all over the country with your hard work and dedication to making Canada a more sustainable place!

2016-2017 Jack Layton Award for Youth Action in Sustainability Winners

The 2017 Learning for a Sustainable Future Jack Layton Award for Youth Action in Sustainability is a special celebration of what makes Canada great: future generations of young people working together to make our country a better, more sustainable place.

This year, for Canada 150, we have chosen 1 winner, 2 runners-up, and 3 Honourable Mentions out of 30 eligible schools:

Winner - $500

Rossland Summit School from Rossland, BC for their Bio Blitz project

Runners-Up - $250 each

Jack Chambers School from London, ON for their Only Rain Down the Drain project
Herb Campbell PS from Caledon, ON for their Medicine Wheel Garden Outdoor Classroom project

Honourable Mentions

Fort McMurray Islamic School in Fort McMurray, AB for their Reusable Markers project
Anderson CVI in Whitby, ON for their To Bee Or Not To Bee project
St. Mary's Academy in Winnipeg, MB for their Waste Reduction: Compostable Plates project

But that's not all - to celebrate Canada 150, in addition to recognizing the outstanding actions of these 6 groups, we will be highlighting one amazing, student-led sustainability Action Project per week until the end of 2017!

RVC Grows!

Royal Vale School | Montreal, QC

These students are combatting hunger, climate change, and nature deficit disorder with their school garden! All grades have been involved with prepping, planning, and planting since 2013. Local families help out over the summer and share in the fall harvest. These kids are helping to feed their school and their community!
