City of Vaughan appoints new Local and Regional Councillor
Vaughan Council appointed Sunder Singh as the new Local and Regional Councillor. The decision came at a Special Council Meeting on June 28. Ms. Singh has extensive leadership experience and has been an active member of the Vaughan community for many years.

Celebrating 25 years of friendship
On June 28, the City of Vaughan welcomed a delegation from Sora, Italy to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the International Partnership Agreement between the cities. The relationship was formed in 1992 and has resulted in a number of opportunities to collaborate and cultivate cultural, educational and economic development initiatives. 
New joint fire and paramedic station will improve response times
Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service, along with York Region Paramedic Services, celebrated the official opening of a new fire and paramedic station on June 26. The environmentally friendly facility will improve co-ordination of resources and enhance efforts to bring emergency services closer to the surrounding community.

Swing, skate and slide at Secord Park
The community celebrated the opening of Secord Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 27. Located at 65 Secord Ave., the park features a double tennis court, junior and senior playgrounds, and a skateboard zone as well as a shade structure and spots for sitting and gathering.

Let's get active together
The City of Vaughan is updating the Active Together  Master Plan. It is a strategy to plan and prioritize  future public parks, libraries and recreation services. Complete our survey by Aug. 14 at vaughan.ca/ActiveTogether.
The Vaughan Urban Design Awards are back
The City is recognizing and celebrating local development initiatives that exemplify excellence in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design and environmental stewardship in Vaughan. Nominations are now open. 


Be among the first to ride the subway in Vaughan 
The Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension (Line 1) opens in December. To celebrate, the City launched a contest for the chance to win a ride on a VIP preview train that will depart from the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) Subway Station. Visit vaughan.ca/contests for full details. 


Kirby Road closed from Jane to Weston
 
The Ministry of Transportation has started work to widen Highway 400 from Major Mackenzie Drive to King Road. As a result, Kirby Road is closed from Jane Street to Weston Road. If you are travelling on these routes, give yourself some extra time.

Protecting the environment, water quality and your property  
Vaughan has to be prepared to address the challenges that come with a growing population and changing climate. The stormwater charge will help fund activities to combat flooding and water contamination.

Get ready to dance! Join us for another FREE concert at Chancellor District Park. Concert starts at 7:30 p.m. See you there.



July 15
Vaughan Latin Festival
Fuerza Latina is hosting its third annual Vaughan Latin Festival at Mackenzie Glen District Park from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.  The event will feature live music, folklore, Paw Patrol, a kids zone and delicious food.

Woodbridge Village Farmers' Market 
The market is located at the Woodbridge Memorial Arena and is open from 9 a.m. to
1 p.m. every Saturday until Oct. 7.
