Apply for NC Pre-Kindergarten
Calling all parents! We are still accepting applications for the NC Pre-Kindergarten program for the 2017-18 school year. Families who are interested in applying must reside in Cabarrus County and have a child that is 4 years old on or before August 31.

The Cabarrus Partnership for Children Board of Directors announced that they will not be renewing the grant that funded the Head Start program in Cabarrus County. The Partnership will continue their responsibilities for the Head Start program through June 30, 2017.

Starting on July 1, 2017, the Cabarrus Head Start program will be provided by the Community Development Institute Head Start (CDI HS) on an interim basis. CDI HS will provide services to children and families until a replacement grantee is selected by the federal Office of Head Start. We have been assured that they will be able to operate the Head Start program with minimal disruption of services to children and families.
The Refuge Hope Center Gears Up for Summer Food Program
The Refuge Hope Center is gearing up for its Activity Power Hour, a summer food program for youth ages 18 & under. 

They will be offering free lunch, activities, prizes and more every Monday-Friday, 12-1pm from June 14-August 18.  The Refuge Hope Center is located at 1030 Central Drive in Concord. 
CHS NorthEast Offers Free Children's Cooking Class
Join CHS NorthEast for a free cooking class, "Kids in the Kitchen", on July 21 at 6-7:30pm.  The class will be located at the Wellness Center 1090 at NorthEast Gateway Court.

American Academy of Pediatrics Recommends No Fruit Juice For Children Under 1 Year
According to a new policy statement by the American Academy of Pediatrics, "fruit juice offers no nutritional benefit to children under age 1 and should not be included in their diet."

The statement, "Fruit Juice in Infants, Children and Adolescents: Current Recommendations," accounts for the rising rates of obesity and concerns about dental health based on evidence accumulated over recent years.
