SCAEA July 2017 Newsletter
President's Palette

Greetings!

I hope everyone's summer is off to a great start!  I had the pleasure of attending CLIA at the Governor's School the first week of June.  What a fantastic experience!  I highly recommend this to anyone who has not attended before!  As well, there were a large number of SCAEA members up there (and hopefully we have some new members after talking to them about the benefits of membership!)  Speaking of membership benefits, hats off to our Treasurer, Karen Wheeler, who created a great little PR piece for the SCAEA during a video production class.  If you have not seen it, you may access it on our FB page or on this link by clicking HERE.

Meg, Cynthia and I had the opportunity to head down to Beaufort last week to work on planning for the fall conference! We met with the chamber, USCB and Mayor Billy!  They have been so wonderful to work with and we have some great things planned!  Don't forget to mark your calendars for November 3rd through the 5th.  I am hoping to have hotel information for you next week so be on the lookout for a Constant Contact email and FB post on this!

Just another reminder that we are accepting proposals to present for the conference.  The theme is INSPIRE & CREATE. If you have never presented before (or you are a regular presenter) and have an inspirational or creative lesson that you would like to share with the group, please do!  All proposals are due by August 31st.  You can access the proposal link by clicking HERE.

If you know of a SCAEA member who is an outstanding teacher, how about nominating him/her for one of our many awards!  It really is quite simple and takes no time! Nominations are due by August 4th for awards.  You can access the form for Nominations by clicking HERE.

As well, don't forget about the other opportunities we have:
Student Scholarship: click HERE.

Mary Whyte Award
(DID I MENTION IT IS $5000?  $2500 for you and a $2500 supply award from City Art)...WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please consider looking at all of the above and nominating someone who is deserving!

Here is to hoping that the rest of your summer is relaxing and rejuvenating!  Please let us know if you have any questions about the conference, awards, etc.  You can contact me at [email protected] or [email protected]

Sincerely,

Catherine

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
We are already in the throws of planning the SC NAHS State Convention 2018!
We are moving venues, as the Columbia Museum will not be available due to renovations -- plus, last year's convention was so well attended, we have outgrown the space!
Exact dates will be sent when a venue is secured, but we are looking to keep it in March, to coincide with Youth Art Month.  I f you have questions, you can contact me at  [email protected]

Inspiring Art
Spanish artist Miguel Ángel Belinchón or " Belin " thoughtfully merges cubism and realism in his new project.  If the subjects of his work seem familiar (albeit distorted), it's because Belin focuses on famous artists in this portrait series. To learn more, click HERE.
