SecurityFence Security Fence
The fencing project is approximately 90% complete. Gates are being installed this week and crews are putting the final touches on the parking lots.

The road to the Air Traffic Control Tower is being realigned with the upcoming water line upgrade project. We anticipate this will occur toward the end of May. Upon completion, the final gate will be installed and the all gates will be turned on.

Gate Codes
Prior to any gates being turned on, the gate code will be shared with all users via e-newsletter. All gates and users will have the same code.

As a reminder, the purpose of the controlled access is to limit the number of non-pilot drivers operating around aircraft.

For this reason we ask that the code be used by pilots and airport users only and that all visitors and vendors utilize the parking areas outside the fence.

Several pedestrian access points can be found along the fence line like the one pictured above.

If you know a based pilot who does not receive our newsletters, we encourage them to sign up using this link: http://bit.ly/airportnewsletter.

waterlineWater Line Upgrades
The City of San Marcos will be upgrading the Airport's water line from 8" to 12" to better accommodate the needs of existing and future tenants. Sections of the 8" wastewater line that are beyond repair will be replaced at this time.

The project will include the realignment of the drive to the Air Traffic Control Tower to aid in drainage and to repair failing pavement.

The anticipated start is Friday, May 20 with the project wrapping up in Fall 2016.

RunwayRunway 13/31 Project
It seems like each time the coal tar seal is scheduled for Runway 13/31, rain pops up in the forecast! We're hoping the process will begin next Monday but rather than try to guess the date, keep an eye on your inbox. We'll send out a special newsletter prior to the project start.

During the application, the runway will be closed for a week and striping will occur shortly thereafter.

Please continue to check NOTAMs and don't hesitate to give us a call if you have any questions. We thank you for your continued patience.

PAPIs
The FAA completed the required flight checks for the PAPIs on April 6. Once we get the official green light from the FAA, the PAPIs will become operational.

CAF Casino Night a Success
On Saturday, April 23, over 300 people attended the CAF's annual Casino Night. The event went smoothly, the weather was perfect, and guests enjoyed a larger than usual silent auction!

If you were unable to attend, don't wait until next year to get involved! The Wing's next big fundraiser is the Golf Classic on September 29. Registration begins in June. Visit the CAF's website for more information: http://www.cafcentex.com/golf.

PS: If you missed the Fly-In or Drive-In Classic Car and Plane Show on April 16, check out the flyover our very own Stacey Batch captured!

SWTARamp Speed Limit
When driving along the ramp, in addition to using the vehicle lane, please make sure your speed is reduced to 15 MPH and that you follow all pavement markings to "stop" at marked intersections.

If you are a business owner, please remind your employees of the speed limit. This is for everyone's safety!

FarmerNo Fueling Inside Hangars

Please note that fueling within a hangar is prohibited.

When arranging full-service fueling with your FBO, the proper arrangements for moving the aircraft out of the hangar must be made prior to servicing the plane. This rules applies regardless of the type or size of hangar.

RFPHangar RFP
In an effort to be as fair and transparent as possible, we're trying out a new process for box hangars that come available for lease.

One such hangar was previously occupied by Southwest Texas Aviation and is located at 1815 Airport Drive.

The City is putting final touches on a Request for Proposal (RFP) document that will be open to the public. It will be advertised on the City's website as well as through our e-newsletter.

Due to the size and ramp location, this particular hangar will be for commercial use only. We have a second hangar coming out soon for commercial or non-commercial storage.

If you have any questions, please give us a call at (512) 216-6039 and keep an eye out for a special newsletter announcing the RFP soon!

Rumor: Confusion associated with Airport name change

Fact: If you've studied the airport diagram lately, you probably noticed that along with the airport's name, the city also changed.

The FAA calls this the "associated city" which does not indicate the city in which the airport is located.

The main reason for the change is to make KHYI easier to find for transient pilots. For example, if you search for Austin airports, KHYI will now come up as an option. Try it for yourself on AirNav!

Curious if the rumor you heard was true? Send us an email or give us a call at (512) 216-6042. Your question may be (anonymously) featured in the next newsletter!
