AIRPORT CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Airfield Construction

Construction on Runway 13/31 began Monday, April 6. The most noticeable work started last Tuesday with the milling of existing pavement.

Please note that during the duration of construction, the ILS to Runway 13 is inoperable and practice approaches are prohibited.

For a full list of closures and construction details, check out our  Special Notice newsletter from Wednesday, April 1.

Entrance Construction

You may have noticed the guardrail has been removed on one side of the airport entrance. Please continue to use caution as you turn into the airport from Highway 21. The project calls for the removal of both guardrails making the turns easier to navigate.

The culverts have been installed and some additional ditch work will take place over the next two weeks before asphalt is poured.

SECURITY FENCING OPEN HOUSE
We're in the final design phase of the FAA-funded security fencing project and we're looking for your input!

Please stop by our offices on Monday, April 27 at a time most convenient to you to see a large map of the project and photos of the planned fence and gates. Airport Management and the project engineers will be on hand to answer any questions.

Security Fencing Open House

4400 Highway 21
San Marcos, TX 78666

Monday, April 27
9:00 am to 5:00 pm

The main goal of the fence is to increase safety. Requiring a code to access the Aircraft Operating Area (AOA) prevents accidental incursions and limits the number of vehicles operating among aircraft.

About Civil Air Patrol

Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with more than 60,000 members nationwide. CAP, in its Air Force auxiliary role, performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and has been credited by the AFRCC with saving more than 100 lives this fiscal year. Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief, and counterdrug missions at the request of federal, state, and local agencies. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to over 25,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs. CAP has been performing missions for America for more than 68 years. For more information on CAP, visit gocivilairpatrol.com or visit the squadron, TX435, which meets every Tuesday night from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the building, 1915 Airport Drive, near the old WWII airfield tower.

Why should pilots choose San Marcos?

Our airport is ideally situated in central Texas between two major cities, San Antonio and Austin.  Houston and Dallas are also relatively close.  Our three runways, large ramp areas, and property available for growth give us abundant opportunity.  We have a tower with radar staffed by excellent and friendly controllers as well instrument approaches to every runway for enhanced safety.  We enjoy a supporting community, city council, city staff, active airport commission, and a progressive airport management team.  For us, we also find that other services on the field are very supportive of our mission and we appreciate their partnership.

San Marcos Regional Airport is professionally managed by Texas Aviation Partners. Visit our website for more information or call (512) 216-6042.
