From fun barbecues to swim parties, July means summer is in full swing. But the heat can be tricky when it comes to your pets. Since the temperatures can get pretty high, always be sure your pets are in a cool place. We'll talk about how hiking in the Arizona summer heat is dangerous for your dog. When it's hot outside, cool them off with fun and delicious summer treats. What's the best time to go for a walk with your
pet during the hot months? Summers can be tough in Arizona, so we'll talk
about hot pavement. Stay informed so you and your pet can have a fun safe summer and get in those much-needed potty breaks and walks. Leave Dogs Home when Hiking in the Heat; It's the Law!

For years there have been countless news stories of owners taking dogs hiking in the excessive heat. Many dogs suffered from terrible heat exhaustion and some died. Owners continued to do the wrong thing.

Beat the Heat with Cool Summer Treats for Your Dog

Face it, if you get all the great summertime frozen treats and your dog gets nothing, it's just not fair. There are some wonderful frozen treat ideas for your dog. They are easy to make right at home, and your dog will be thrilled!

Check Concrete before Walking Your Dog in Hot Temps

Summertime can be challenging when taking your dog for a walk, especially in Arizona and other places where temperatures can get well into the upper 90's and 100's.

It's hard to tell how the asphalt feels when you have shoes or sneakers on, but imagine if you were walking on your bare feet. It would be hot and your feet would burn. That's what happens to your dog's paws on hot pavement.

Employee of the month: Kelly Williams, Lead Guest Service Attendant

As a young girl, Kelly Williams always brought home stray animals, so it was fitting when she found her calling more than 10 years ago working with animals. After almost five years at Second Home Pet Resort as Guest Service Attendant (GSA), she recently was promoted to Lead GSA. "I like my new responsibilities, my team members and helping them," she said.

While Kelly continues to be responsible for general pet care, she also manages team members and delegates work, answers questions and offers advice.

Working with the animals is still important. "I like the interaction and why I went into pet care so I can help the dogs," she said.

Kelly's favorite thing about the job is working with the new people and training them. "I enjoy helping them to succeed," she said. "It's important when training a new GSA to teach them compassion and how to comfort a nervous guest."

The care given to guests at Second Home "sets us apart," Kelly said. "We really pay attention to detail and treat each guest as if they are our own. We want everyone to have a great stay. It's not just a job for us; we really love all these animals."
