  MUMBAI CONFERENCE WRAP-UP

The 2017 FAWCO conference took place at The Trident Hotel, Nariman Point in Mumbai, India.

The conference was beautifully organized with wonderful sessions and speakers, the awarding of the Education Awards and Development Grants, the big reveal of the new Target project - Hope Beyond Displacement - and a fabulous opportunity for all the participants to learn about and enjoy the incredible culture of India.

The FAWCO Foundation also celebrated its 50th Anniversary this year.  Foundation Night was a bright and colorful evening which included both Silent and Live Auctions, where guests truly displayed their generosity and spirit in support of The Foundation and its programs.

Attendees were also treated to a wonderful presentation highlighting 50 years of The FAWCO Foundation.

Raffle tickets were sold throughout the weekend for both the charming schoolhouse Friendship Quilt and the stunning Emerald Ring.

Additionally, a lovely selection of Backing Women merchandise was available for purchase. All Backing Women proceeds go directly to the Target project.

The FAWCO Foundation board is, as always, truly grateful to all the volunteers, donors and participants who contributed to the success of the conference and the Heart of Gold Fundraiser. Your generosity will allow us to continue making a significant impact on many people's lives with the truly worthy programs supported by The FAWCO Foundation, FAWCO, FAUSA and FAWCO member clubs.

Thank you one and all and we hope to see you again in  2018 when we gather in The Hague!

EA AND DG APPLICATION TIPS!

Summer is a great time to start thinking about applying for next year's Development Grants and Education Awards.

However, the process may seem a bit daunting with the applications to fill out and the required documents to gather.  However, we can help!

FAWCO Foundation VP Programs, Tracy Moede, has put together an application timeline for both of these endeavors, giving you specific goals that will allow you to complete your  application in a stress-free and efficient manner.

These documents can be accessed below as well as on the homepage of the FAWCO Foundation website.

SUMMER GLOBAL BOOK READ!

The FAWCO Education Team announces its inaugural summer global book read - The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer.

The goal is for all FAWCO club members to read this book over the summer and have a culminating event in conjunction with International Literacy Day in September.

In conjunction with the exciting announcement of the $10,000 Matching Grant Program for Target, this is a great opportunity to raise money for the Target project - Hope Beyond Displacement.  Turn your book discussion into a fundraising event!  If you hold your event after September 1, all money you raise for the Target project (up to $1,000 per club) is eligible for the Matching Grant!

Literacy + Fundraiser for Target = one great event!

SPOTLIGHT

T
ina Carrari

FAUSA Skills Enhancement Award Recipient, 2014

The FAUSA Skills Enhancement Award continues to be the perfect opportunity for me to deepen my scope of chiropractic practice locally and globally while at the same time helping to fulfill FAWCO's focus on Women and Children's Welfare and Health.

Since receiving the award, I have completed 13/14 modules of the International Pediatric Chiropractic Association (ICPA) 200-hr certification program. Topics covered have included perinatal care and chiropractic co-management with other healthcare professionals.

While on a service trip with Art Aids Art in South Africa, I realized the great need for neuromusculoskeletal healing in underserved communities. In places such as Khayelitsha township where residents struggle to survive due to extreme poverty, proper body alignment and function offer valuable ways to promote health for those who do not have access to healthy work environments, pain medication, and physical therapy.  Pain not only causes suffering, but reduces resistance to disease and diminishes ability to work productively - a dangerous combination for those living day-to-day with few funds and no health care.

My long term goal in becoming ICPA certified is to take my chiropractic and massage therapy training to impoverished locations around the world to empower and encourage women and their families to take good care of themselves in a vitalistic way. I envision collaborating with FAWCO's network of member clubs and the programs that they support.
