Easy Ways to Honor, Remember or Enjoy Time with Your Father in Fairfax Parks

Honor Your Father in a Fairfax County Park

Father's Day is Sunday, June 18!  So if you can, spend some quality time with your father and grandfather in a county park.  The more than 400 county parks and recreational facilities provide many opportunities to participate in a favorite hobby or sport or to relax and enjoy time together.

Consider these opportunities!
  • Golfing, fishing, hiking, boating, ice skating, picnicking, jogging or bicycling
  • Attending a Summer Entertainment Series concert
  • Asking your Dad to share his favorite story or memory that happened to him in a park. Don't worry if his fish was always just a little bigger than the one you caught!
  • Recording his oral history
  • Volunteering together
  • Learning about his childhood and what he values most in life
  • Making time to remember his birthday and respecting his traditions
  • Forgiving him
  • Attending the Sully Antique Car Show
  • Talking often
  • Looking at photo albums and sharing memories on a quite park bench
  • Attending an event on the June park calendar
If your Dad is not in the area or no longer living, a wonderful way to honor him is to donate a park bench, a tree or making a contribution to the Park Foundation. For more information please calling Margaret Thaxton at 703-324-8532.
